FORWARD
It is a pleasure to again welcome you to this sale of
another selection of the unique collection complied
by the late Les Oakes.
Les was one of those characters who only come
along into your life very occasionally. Having spent
his life attending auction sales all around the country,
the collection at Hales View Farm is exceptional not
only for its quantity but also of the variety of items
collected by Les Oakes. It really is a snapshot of
everyday items used over the past 150 years.
This second sale includes what is probably the most
comprehensive private collection of Farm Wagons
from counties throughout England. Add to this, one of
the few remaining Field Kitchens from the First World
War and you will all want to be at the sale. But also
included in the sale is a Carousel built on a London
Trolley and also a mobile chip van, both of which
will bound to excite any collector. The private drive
carriages in the sale include a Marston Hearse, trade vehicles, bow-fronted Brougham,
wagonettes and phaetons also a gypsy wagon and two living vans.
All these items are being sold to make room for some more interesting developments at
Hales View Farm by his two sons and daughter who are really following in their father’s
footsteps. Time does not stand still but when you see the items on offer at this sale you
may feel you have been transported back many decades.
The last sale in 2009 was held on one of the wettest days of the summer. This year it
will be fine, hopefully! We look forward to seeing you at Hales View Farm on 29th June.
