YORKSHIRE DALES
(Lancashire 1 : Yorkshire 0)
The Year 10 Geographers thoroughly enjoyed their residential trip
to Malham. They efficiently gathered data on tourism for their
controlled assessment tasks and soon developed a tenacious
approach in order to interview passing visitors. The girls learnt how
to use quadrats to survey the footpath erosion in the spectacular
scenery of the Malham area.
The guided tours of the limestone caves and Swinden Quarry proved
to be highly informative but the climax of the trip had to be bringing
the chair stacking title back to Lancashire. Westholme beat Bradford
Girls’ Grammar Schools’ previous record of 10.1 seconds by managing
to stack 20 chairs in just 7.0 seconds! This left the Yorkshire quarry
men a little subdued but meant that our journey home was jubilant!
Acker Bilk
comes to Westholme!
Legendary clarinettist, Acker Bilk and his Paramount Jazz Band played to a
packed Westholme Theatre in November. Acker Bilk is the latest name to
be added to the list of Jazz Greats to have graced the Westholme stage
- names such as George Melly, Kenny Ball, Syd Lawrence Band and the
Glenn Miller Band. The audience was treated to old favourites, such
as Stranger On The Shore, as well as jokes and anecdotes from Acker.
Another very enjoyable evening at the Theatre!
The concert got underway with the Westholme Junior
and Senior Choirs’ wonderful Bee Gees Bonanza!
Acker Bilk with fellow
clarinettist, Tori Redmond
