Southern Tasmanian Kart Club Titles
Tasmania’s weather turned it on for the annual S.T.K.C club title at AWC Raceway, Hobart.
Perfect conditions for racing, on a gripping track and in the wonderful Tasmanian countryside
provided fantastic racing from a quality field. Including a special appearance from current
Formula 3 R-Tek racer Josh Burdon, who returned to his home club to support their club
titles and keep himself race fit prior to the next championship rounds at Phillip Island and the
finale in Tasmania Symmon’s Plains.
Dedicated karters travelling from around the Tasmanian state to attend this event and race in
a fast and furious day of wonderful competition. With a great vibe around the paddock and
titles up for grabs.
The fun began with the Cadets class, local karter Brock Lamont was a favourite after a good
result in the previous Rising Stars meeting, but a spin early in the final and then a fantastic
recovery drive through the field to finish just behind Red plate-holder Brock Evans who easily
took the round and title. Lachlan Dalton finished a close third after holding second for most of
the final.
The Rookie field was a great battle between Jonah Slater, Sam Gala and Zevie Eisentraut. A
fantastic battle over the day between the trio and the fight between Slater and Eisentraut in
the final was the drive of the day. With no quarter asked or given, both swapping the lead
with Lauchie Newman shadowing close behind. With five lead changes in the last three laps,
Zevie Eisentraut raced to the title to back up his victory in Launceston last month.

Junior National Light showed that Tasmania has a great future with Bodie Reading just
besting Wade McLean and Zac Vassallo in a close fought final. Wade having show fantastic
pace all weekend in his Wylie Tiles sponsored Tony Kart.
Junior National Heavy went to Daniel Newman from Tassie Rising Star Alistair Lee and
Thomas Clarke with special mention to Zhane Ripper who had mixed it with the boys all day
in her Moonah Auto Part Recyclers Arrow; until an off after the heats stopped her chance of
the title.
Fujutsu Cool driver Brody Appleby took out Junior Clubman after the long journey south, with
Nicky Richard and Alistair Lee collecting podium places at the flag. This bodes well for Brody
in the forth coming Tasmanian State titles in Launceston in November as he find his karting
form in his Tasman Metal Industries, 47 engines Tony kart.
Clubman Light had a special racer in the R-Tek Formula Three driver Josh Burdon competing
at his home club and Australia's most southerly track. Josh showed great speed all day and
showed great interest in all the younger drivers who came to speak to the amiable racer –
passing out tips on racing and stickers to his young supporters. Josh had constant attention
off and on the track, but with a couple of off’s over the day spoilt his chances of another title.
Josh was very enthusiastic about being back in a kart and hopes to show to his supporters
that there are more wins in F3 before the end of the season. Local ace Luke Sapwell took the
final from Evan Livingston and Nathan Zuj.
Steve Crocker again dominated Over 40’s Pro with Shane Burdon on his tail in the final; Glen
Newman took out the final podium place. Glenn Angel ran well all day to take a deserved title
in Over 40’s Super Heavy.
