CHARGERS ATHLETICS<br />
20<strong>11</strong>-20<strong>12</strong> marks the <strong>Chargers</strong>’ 18th season of competition in the<br />
Pacific Western Athletic Association (PACWEST) and the Canadian<br />
Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) – the largest intercollegiate<br />
sport organization in Canada with over 95 member institutions<br />
representing five regional athletic conferences.<br />
<strong>Camosun</strong> currently fields teams in basketball, volleyball and golf.<br />
Since their inception to the PACWEST in 1994, the <strong>Chargers</strong> teams<br />
have qualified for over 65 National and Provincial Championships<br />
and have achieved over 30 medal finishes. Over 100 <strong>Camosun</strong><br />
student-athletes have earned awards for academic excellence<br />
while over 150 <strong>Chargers</strong> have been recognized for their<br />
outstanding athletic performance.<br />
The <strong>Chargers</strong> are proud to welcome guests and visitors to<br />
their home in the Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence (PISE)<br />
on <strong>Camosun</strong>’s Interurban campus. This incredible facility features<br />
a double court gymnasium with international height ceiling, large<br />
fitness centre with a high performance area, athletic therapy<br />
room, team rooms, change rooms, classrooms, a sport research<br />
and innovation centre, erg centre and the Alex Campbell<br />
all-weather turf field.<br />
PARTNERSHIPS<br />
Together with <strong>Camosun</strong> <strong>College</strong>, the Pacific Institute<br />
for Sport Excellence and LifeMark Sport Medicine, the<br />
<strong>Chargers</strong> program boasts a home that rivals the best<br />
training centers in the world with access to the country’s<br />
best strength and conditioning coaches and professional<br />
clinicians including physiotherapists, athletic therapists,<br />
chiropractors, massage therapists and sports medicine<br />
physicians; all offering many years of experience at the<br />
national, international and Olympic sport levels.<br />
In a joint venture with <strong>Camosun</strong>’s Centre for Sport and<br />
Exercise Education (CSEE), the <strong>Chargers</strong> have provided<br />
hundreds of students with the opportunity to put<br />
academics into action. Every year, CSEE students develop<br />
new skills and receive hands-on experience through a<br />
variety of <strong>Chargers</strong> placements and internships as well<br />
as employment as <strong>Chargers</strong> event staff. As part of their<br />
curriculum, CSEE students are also involved in promoting<br />
the <strong>Chargers</strong> games on <strong>Camosun</strong>’s two campuses and<br />
organizing game- day entertainment and activities.<br />
