Children’s Miracle Network ® (CMN) supporters
in the Tri-state Region donated an amazing
$804,436 during Celebration Broadcast 2007 in
June. The Children’s Miracle Network
Celebration represents thousands of gifts donated
by individuals, community organizations, corporations
and foundations.
This annual fundraiser was broadcast live from
the lobby of Gundersen Lutheran Medical
Center. WXOW TV-19 news anchor Amy
DuPont and sports director Scott Emerich motivated
viewers to help support this worthy cause
during the daylong broadcast on June 3. They
encouraged new Monthly Giving Club members
and challenged viewers to “Fill the Fifties”
throughout the day. Phone bank volunteers got
into the spirit by using clackers to make noise to
encourage callers to call in their support. A
chance to win a $1,000 travel voucher, compliments
of Carlson Wagonlit Travel, owned and
operated by Goli’s Avenues of Travel was given as
an incentive to join the Monthly Giving Club.
The winner was Joan Solie of Onalaska, a longtime
supporter of CMN.
Each year we share stories about
the lives touched through your
donations...stories about challenges,
courage and triumph.
Many of these stories are about
hope, hope for a healthy future.
This year you met some special
champions, Madelyn, Kaitlyn,
Sebastian, Maverick and Cory
(see related story) whose lives
were not only touched by your
donations, they were literally
changed forever. Through these
stories, you got a glimpse of how
important you are to these precious
champions.
On behalf of the children, thank you for your
generous support. You make it possible for us to
continue offering hope and healing to children
and families in the Tri-state Region.

A Hole-in-one...in Heaven!
Cory Monti was only on this earth for nine years, but he
lived his life to the fullest. We introduced you to Cory Monti
as one of the 2007 CMN Champions.
He was diagnosed with Lymphoblastic
Lymphoma May 27, 2006, Memorial
Day weekend. Cory went through eight
months of chemotherapy and things
seemed to be going well.
We met Cory when everything was looking
good. We started filming for his
CMN telethon segment. He was playing
putt-putt golf in Gundersen Lutheran
Pediatric Oncology and looking forward
to afternoons of fishing with his grandpa.
Cory had his picture taken for the set of
the telethon right next to a Lego pegboard.
Little did we know the significance
of this at the time.
Unfortunately, in March of 2007 he and his “Nana” and
“Pa”, Cheryl and John Michels, got news they didn’t want to
hear. The tumor was back. This would mean more

Everyone we have
spoken to about the
insulin pump tells us it
makes life a lot easier and better for

chemotherapy and a possible stem cell transplant. The decision
was made to continue sharing Cory’s story.
Stays in the hospital were long, but Cory was
patient. He spent time putting together Lego
sets that would make most of us say “forget
this!” Cory was an expert at Legos. Cory also
had frequent visits from the Pet Therapy dogs.
This helped pass the time and comforted him
since he wasn’t able to see his own Springer
Spaniels, Jake and Jill. When not in the hospital,
Cory spent time bowling, cooking, crafting
and playing miniature golf. He mastered
the miniature course. A hole-in-one was not
unusual for Cory.
Tests showed that the last rounds of chemo
didn’t get rid of the cancer. Without being
able to get in remission, Cory was no longer a
candidate for a stem cell transplant. The cancer
continued to grow. Cory left us on June 29 knowing he
would be playing his next game of miniature golf...in heaven.

CMN Radiothon hits the airwaves Oct. 18-20
Children’s Miracle Network ® (CMN), CC106.3, Eagle
102.7, Magic 105 and Foresters are teaming up to bring you
Radiothon 2007.
Radiothon is a fun, emotional and invigorating three-day
fundraising event where families who have benefited from
CMN in some way share their incredible stories set to music
and told by moms, dads and even the kids themselves. Last
year 30 families were featured and more than $45,000 was
raised.
“The La Crosse Radio Group’s passion for Radiothon continues
to grow. They strive to help raise more dollars for kids
in our communities each and every year,” says Jean Moe,
CMN Regional Specialist. “We can’t thank them enough for
bringing CMN to their listeners.” This is the fifth year for
Radiothon in our area.
Radiothon is more than just raising money. Radiothon
brings a greater awareness of CMN, a service of Gundersen
Lutheran Medical Foundation. Families are aware of the
impact of CMN, whether investing in the life of a premature
infant or preserving the dreams of a teenager threatened
by cancer.

be held at the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Onalaska. Everyone
is invited to stop in, witness Radiothon firsthand, and help
children in our communities.
Operators wanted for CMN Radiothon
Children’s Miracle Network ® (CMN) is looking for phone
bank operators for Radiothon 2007 on Thursday, Oct. 18
through Saturday, Oct. 20. As CMN families tell their stories,
listeners will be calling in pledges. Your help is needed
to take those pledges. Phone banks positions will be open
from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Oct. 18 and 19 and 8 a.m. to 3
p.m. on Oct. 20.
