JEWELRY
In the ancient Vedic tradition, jewelry was valued not only for its
radiant beauty but for the healing properties of the gemstones,
precious metals, and other natural elements it contained. The
ayurvedic sages prescribed the use of various gems as a subtle
treatment for restoring balance to the body, mind, and spirit. For
example, gold is considered a warming metal that when worn next to
the skin can help counter excess cold and invigorate the bodymind.
Silver is a cooling metal that balances a tendency to overheating
and irritability. Sandalwood, which is often used to create beads for
necklaces, bracelets, and malas, has a fresh, soothing aroma and is
considered very grounding and balancing.
