In <strong>the</strong> cellar, Lupton’s chanting reached a sudden peak. He<br />

stepped on to <strong>the</strong> glowing m<strong>and</strong>ala – <strong>and</strong> vanished. Instinctively<br />

Sarah got to her feet <strong>and</strong> ran down <strong>the</strong> steps. There was still a<br />

faint glow around <strong>the</strong> intricate design. Somehow it seemed to<br />

draw her. Slowly, as if hypnotised, Sarah put first one foot <strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong>n <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r on to <strong>the</strong> m<strong>and</strong>ala.<br />

She heard a shout from <strong>the</strong> head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> cellar steps. It was<br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>Doctor</strong>, Yates at his side. The <strong>Doctor</strong> called, ‘Sarah – step<br />

back. Get <strong>of</strong>f that thing!’<br />

She tried to obey but she couldn’t. She felt herself being<br />

drawn away, away...<br />

As Yates <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Doctor</strong> started down <strong>the</strong> cellar steps to help<br />

her, Sarah Jane Smith flicked out <strong>of</strong> existence. By <strong>the</strong> time <strong>the</strong>y<br />

reached <strong>the</strong> m<strong>and</strong>ala it was empty...
