Polyoicous: shoots partly synoicous, partly male<br />

and rarely female in the same tuft; in synoicous<br />

plants anteridia few, (1-)2-7, red; paraphyses yellow<br />

to orangish, longer than antheridia.<br />

Plants in wide, compact or dense tufts, 1.0-2.5<br />

cm high, green, yellowish or brownish-green, slightly<br />

glossy, tomentose, rhizoids ferrugineous, +papillose.<br />

Stem puprle, 1.0-1.5 cm long, densely foliate,<br />

comose, subterminal shoots 1-3, to 0.5-1.5 cm long,<br />

more loosely foliate, comose. Lower leaves loosely<br />

arranged, ovate-lanceolate to ovate, to 2.0 mm<br />

long, 0.6 mm wide. Upper leaves spreading when<br />

wet, densely imbricate and slightly spirally twisted<br />

around stem when dry, 2.0-3.0(-3.8) mm long,<br />

0.7-0.9(-1.2) mm wide, widest at 1/5-1/3 of<br />

leaf length, lanceolate or broadly lanceolate, longly<br />

and gradually acuminate, non-decurrent, red at<br />

base; margin recurved or revolute from base to<br />

acumen, entire or serrulate; border distinct, (4-<br />

)6(-7)-rowed, composed of thick-walled linear cells,<br />

not differentiated in color; costa stout, red at<br />

base, yellow above, brownish in acumen, excurrent<br />

in long, (0.24-)0.4-0.65(-0.8) mm, straight or slightly<br />

flexuose, serrulate or rarely smooth, rather thick<br />

awn. Laminal cells with sligthly incrassate cell<br />

walls, slightly porose, in acumen narrow, to 70(-<br />

80) x 8-10 μm, in upper leaf rhombic-hexagonal<br />

to rombic, (50-)60(-80) x (12-)16(-18) μm, in midleaf<br />

(40-)50-60(-70) x(12-)16-20(-22) μm, at base<br />

rectangular, to 70 x 36(-40) μm, in leaf corners<br />

subquadrate, to 50 μm wide.<br />

Perichaetial leaves ovate-lanceolate, margin narrowly<br />

recurved to plane in innermost leaves; costa<br />

excurrent to percurrent and ending below leaf apex<br />

in innermost leaves. Seta (2.5-)3.5-4(-6) cm, cupperreddish<br />

to fuscous-red, thin, slightly twisted when dry,<br />

arcuate below capsule. Capsule pendulous, light-fuscous<br />

to brown, 2.0-3.0(-4.5) mm long, 1.0-1.5 mm<br />

thick; cylindric, symmetric and contracted below<br />

mouth to obovate or pyriform and not contracted<br />

below mouth, neck as long as urn or shorter. Operculum<br />

small, slightly to highly convex, shortly beaked,<br />

brown to dark red-brown, glossy. Annulus broad, to<br />

140 μm, 2-3-rowed. Peristome inserted at urn mouth,<br />

500 μm high. Exostome teeth at base 120 μm wide,<br />

gradually tapered, below yellow, in uppermost part<br />

hyaline; border 12-18 μm wide; median line zig-zag-
