Oktober 2004 HyperPAV Functionality and Performance Parallel Acess Volumes today: WLM Dynamic Alias Management… Alias exposures are relatively static today During initialization, z/OS queries the storage server to determine which alias exposures belong to which base volumes The ESS is used to provide the initial alias/base configuration Over the life of an IPL of the storage server, this alias/base configuration can change due to I/O loads within the logical subsystem WLM is used to determine if alias exposures should be reassigned to different bases, and will facilitate those alias moves to meet overall system workload goals Each image within a sysplex will share the same view of the LSS, and therefore, the same alias/base relationships If an alias is moved, all systems in the sysplex must reassociate the alias with its new base volume Note: The I/O request priority (IORP) is employed to manage the order of queueing behind a UCB, to resolve conflicts within the channel and/or subsystem, to order queuing for commands within the subsystem, and to allocate link bandwidth Silvio Sasso's <strong>Corner</strong>, GSE z/OS Expertforum IBM System CH #66, z9 27.-28.3.2007, – The Enterprise Hub © 2004 IBM Corporation 35
