TELETOON DELIVERS A DOUBLE DOSE OF TWEEN CULTURE

TORONTO, ONT – June 28/05…If you think it’s tough being a teenager, try being
two! That’s the dilemma facing 14-year old Carl Crashman, the slacker teen in
Carl², who possesses his own secret clone. Produced by Portfolio Entertainment,
the highly anticipated animated comedy series makes its worldwide debut in a sneak
preview on Sunday, August 7, at 7:00 pm on TELETOON. Carl² launches
Saturday, September 3 at 7:00 pm and the show will air regularly on Saturdays
and Sundays at 7:00 pm.
Imagine ranting about life on your Blog and then getting a Spam email offering the
miracle of online cloning. That’s exactly what happens to Carl Crashman, a dude
with a ‘tude, who accidentally orders his own clone online using a fingerprint, a
yearbook photo and a scabby band-aid. The result arrives six weeks later - an
enormous wooden crate containing Carl’s physical duplicate, a clone known as C2.
Who could blame Carl for thinking his ultimate slacker dream has come true?
“Carl² creatively taps into the zeitgeist of today’s tweens. Internet chat rooms are
this generation’s answer to the malt shop and blogging is the new diary,” says
executive producer, Joy Rosen.
Rattled by a sister immersed in the world of Goth and a best friend who exudes hip
hop cool, Carl becomes a master of disaster while tutoring his personified, topsecret,
alter ego for the tasks of every teen – schoolwork, household chores, parent
manipulation and getting the girl.
Carl soon learns the meaning of the phrase be careful what you wish for as his
typical existence becomes double the trouble and he scrambles to cover up the trail
of chaos that his eccentric, exuberant, ‘friend of the friendless’ clone leaves in his
wake. It’s an awe-inspiring responsibility for someone who has been trying to
avoid responsibility his whole life.
Aimed directly at the tween viewer, Carl² takes an unaffected, quasi-
irreverent look at life from the perspective of a typical 14-year old boy. “As
Carl navigates the mine field of his own creation, the series assimilates all the
touchstones of 21 st century teen existence: shyness, bullying, keeping secrets,
annoying parents, relationships and unrequited love,” says executive producer
Lisa Olfman.

Carl² is set to make animated TV history! Viewers won’t want to miss an innovative
and interactive two-part episode that features the characters competing in a musical
talent contest. At the end of part-one the audience will be invited to determine the
winner of the Super Star Talent Search by casting their votes live online or via text
messaging. The winner will be announced in the following episode – an animated
television first!
The colourful cast of characters in Carl’s world consists of:
• C2 - Carl’s Clone created from Carl’s DNA and a bit of drool from Rex the
Dog
• Chloe Crashman - Carl’s Goth rebel older sister, who (behind her back) is
referred to as “The Princess of Darkness”
• Skye Blue - Carl’s girlfriend, and a gentle, animal-loving vegan
• Jamie James - Carl’s best friend, guerilla filmmaker and the only one who
knows Carl’s secret
• Lorna Lookman - Carl’s pesky and nosy neighbour
• Dr. Janet Crashman - Carl’s overachieving Psychiatrist Mom
• Barney Crashman - Carl’s well intentioned Inventor/Infomercial Host Dad
