The Property
Designed by Barbadian architect Livy Jordan, and built in
1999, this distinctive six-bedroom residence is located at
the end of a private cul-de-sac, close to the 9th tee of the
Sandy Lane Golf course. Approached by a long gravel
driveway and positioned on a hillside with sea views of
the West Coast of Barbados, the property comprises over
2 acres of mature landscaped gardens, designed by
renowned landscape designer, Marcus Beckles, and
features a giant old Banyan, fig bananas, mango and rare
Cassia trees.
The Location
A most desirable property located within the prestigious
Sandy Lane Estate. Situated less than a 5-minute drive
from the Sandy Lane Golf Course and the private beach
facility on the Sandy Lane Beach, where a cabana which is
included in the sale, is situated. Also close by is the
historic town of Holetown, providing a wide variety of
excellent shops and fine restaurants offering a diverse
range of cuisine.
The Residence
Built of coral stone, the main house is a stunning example
of Caribbean architectural style featuring traditional West
Indian louvred shutters and jalousies. The roofs are of
cedar shingle and James Barrow, an internationally
respected craftsman, created the decorative wrought iron
and balustrade work. The floors are of imported Chinese
slate throughout and internal fittings include Beardmore
verdigris bronze door handles and Edwardian-style taps
and fittings.
The ground floor features the main entrance and
courtyard with an intriguing bridge leading over a rock
pool with fish pond and waterfall, an entrance hall, study
with en suite shower room, library/media room, guest
bedroom suite and staff quarters. The master suite plus
Tucked away in the well-manicured gardens is a beautiful
two-bedroom guest cottage with its traditional Barbadian
gingerbread latticework and wide veranda overlooking a
private garden. Its typical chattel house design is
complemented by the attractive Ashley Morrison hand
painted interiors depicting a theme of monkeys (reflecting
the colony of Bajan Green Vervet monkeys which live in
the gully at the edge of the property), orchids and
tropical foliage. The self-contained cottage offers two airconditioned
bedrooms with en suite bathrooms, a living
room and a fully equipped kitchen.
two additional guest suites, each with private patios, are
located on the first floor along with a reception lobby
which enjoys spectacular views of the Caribbean and
leads on to a terrace overlooking the striking swimming
pool. An elegantly furnished, formal drawing room,
spacious terrace offering casual dining and seating areas,
well-designed kitchen, breakfast room and powder room
are also situated on the first floor.
Lane Property Owners’ beach facility, only a 5-minute
