Both Kyphosus cinerascens (Forsskal) and K.
mean "feces from metal" and are the Palauan
to the rust color of these fishes.
rekereked
Caranx melampygus is sometimes called by its
Japanese name, hira aji. Esuuch, the Palauan
word for C. sexfasciatus, is the same as that for
the Palau scops owl, Otus podarginus. We have
been unable to obtain a specimen of a small
carangid called buuch; the same name is given
to the Areca or betelnut palm. Megalaspis
corcfyla (Linnaeus) occurs in Palau but has no
vernacular name.
