The collaborative partnership between the Work Education
Centre and Sprout Community Garden has provided an
exciting opportunity for on-site skills training. Sprout staff,
including the head gardener, support the initiative. They
see the mutual benefit for them as well as the students.
Horticulture students utilise Sprout’s excellent and well
equipped facility. Outcomes in practical horticulture skills,
garden maintenance, plant care, propagation and tree care
as well as team work and personal management were
achieved.
Students have helped prepare for the monthly community
market, landscaped the BBQ area, lay concrete pavers for
the tool shed and propagated seeds and plants. Students
have enthusiastically explored the many and varied aspects
of sustainable gardening practice.
