PROGRAMS
This week Thursday, we have NO LUNCHEON as we celebrate our
annual Public Safety Banquet at 7:00 p.m. at our Waycross Exchange
Club Center. Public Safety Officers of Waycross and Ware County will
be highlighted at our banquet. Cost is $5.00 for members and $5.00
per guest or $10.00 a couple. See Bill Deason for tickets. Immediate
Past President Chris Tatum is Chairman of Public Safety Banquet
Committee.
This Saturday, March 30, we will sell plants in the front of Fairgrounds
from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. All members need to sign up for a time
to sell here. Also, members are to sell Boston Butts to be cooked this
Friday evening. Members are to sell tickets for $20.00 per butt and let
Chris know how many tickets you sold so an accurate count can be
cooked. Pick-up times are 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Saturday.
Next week Thursday, William Denton April Programs Chairman will
present Terri Anderson of Satilla Advocacy Services as first luncheon
speakers for April Child Abuse Prevention Month. Invite friends,
associates and relatives to lunch and invite to fill out membership
application to join America’s Service Club.
PATRICK DAVID HITT
MARCH YOUTH OF THE MONTH
Robbie Winn introduced Patrick David Hitt as our club’s March
Youth of the Month. Patrick is the son of David and Cindy Hitt and
grandson of Billy and Jane Gillis, Richard and Jill McGee, and Darrell
and Iris Hitt of Waycross. He is currently ranked 12th out of 344 Ware
County High School Seniors. Patrick attributes his academic success
to his parents who assisted him to overcome obstacles in his learning
and to God who has blessed him with a bright and understanding
mind. His activities and honors include: BETA Club, National Honor
Society, Waycross Bank & Trust Jr. Board of Directors, Cornerstone
Student Advisory Council, Model United Nations, Academic Quiz
Board, All “A” Honor Roll, WCHS Soccer, Academic Athlete of the Year:
Soccer 2012, Defensive Player of the Year Soccer 2012, WCHS Varsity
Football, WCHS Golden Gator Band, WCHS Tour Leader for VIP Tours,
Journalism staff, University of Georgia Certificate of Merit, Lion’s
Club Academic Honor Society, Presbyterian College Fellow Award,
Advanced Placement Scholar with Distinction Award and Georgia
State School Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council. He was also
involved with seven community activities. After school, he plans to
attend University of Georgia and major in microbiology. He plans to

2013 GOAL WINNER CARLIE JOHNS
Past President Tony Tanner introduced Danita Cannon, Vice-President
of Student Affairs, Okefenokee Technical College to introduce
the Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL) program. Ms.
Cannon stated that Larry Paulk is Chairman of OTC Board, Cindy
Tanner is Director of OTC Foundation, Karen Boyle is Director of GOAL
Program and Glenn Diebert is President of OTC. The college provides
education that transforms lives from having little work skills to having
a career and profession. Students benefit from getting a balanced life
while going to school. The GOAL Program began in 1971 to provide
excellence in teaching and learning. Instructors are nominated for
excellence and students are nominated for excellence. Interviews
are given after eight students are selected. The eight are narrowed
to three who get intensive training and interviews. The winner competes
with nine other colleges in the region with the winner going to
State finals. Three have won from OTC to represent State for a year.
Ms. Johns received a plaque to commemorate the occasion and she
thanked Karen Boyle for all of her support. Her mother graduated
OTC and is now an EMT for ten years. Her husband did the same and
is now a certified linesman. Carlie will become a medical worker.

WAYCROSS POLICE DEPARTMENT STATS

Chris Tatum said he tried to get others to give the report but no
one was available except himself. Major Tatum said the Department
has 57 officers, with one Chief of Police, one Major Administration
Services Commander, four Lieutenants (patrol, personnel, criminal investigation,
administrative services), ten Sergeants with two criminal

investigation units and eight patrol units, one administration/alcohol
licensing officers, six investigators with four criminal investigation
units and two drug teams, twenty-four uniform patrol officers with
one crime D.A.R.E. officer, three school resource officers, three traffic
safety teams, two code enforcement for a total of 57 Sworn Officers.
They are authorized for 73 positions.
Part one Crimes of homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault,
burglary, felon thefts and motor vehicle thefts decreased from 378 in
2011 to 254 in 2012. Arrests declined from 158 to 131. Part two less
aggravated violations declined from 2,461 in 2011 to 2,414 in 2012.
Total cases and arrests declined from 3,516 in 2011 to 3,246 in 2012.
Arrests declined also from 1,920 to 1,714. In general, most violators
declined from 2011 to 2012. Good program, Major Chris Tatum.
