Background
Namibia has a stable multi-party democracy with a history of free
elections since independence. The Namibian constitution and its
political leaders promote and encourage inward foreign investment.
The country has a well established mining act, a good and fair legal
system and a friendly tax regime. Mining is the biggest contributor
to Namibia's economy in terms of revenue and is a valued industry
by the Namibian government and people. The Fraser Institute
Survey 2011/12 placed Namibia 6th amongst African nations when
ranking jurisdictions on the attractiveness of their mining policies.
Weatherly International has been operating in Namibia since 2006
and has good relationships within the Namibian government, its
agencies and other stake holders in Namibia.
The Tschudi Project will offer many benefits to Namibia and
Namibians, namely the:
• Creation of more than 500 jobs directly in the
Tschudi operations
• Creation of thousands of jobs indirectly.
• Revenue generation for the Republic of Namibia through
taxation and royalties
• Value addition to pure refined final-product copper for
the first time in the country
• Transfer of important skills to Namibians
• Equity participation for Namibian partners including
Republic of Namibia, Government Insurance Pension Fund
and Labour Investment Holdings

Mr Webster is a graduate mining engineer
from the University of Sydney. He has over
35 years experience in the resources industry,
including more than 15 years in managing
director or chief executive positions.
Mr Thomas is an Australian mining engineer
with over 20 years of diverse operational
experience. He was previously General
Manager of Lihir Gold’s Ballarat mine, and
has also played key leadership roles in the
development and production start-up
of open pit and underground mines in
several countries.
