Membership has its perks! Join us on Friday, April 19th for our next Free Family Movie Night. Bring your Crossroads Community Membership (or pick one up there) and “Pick up your Perk!” You will receive a coupon good for a free item from the concession as well as a draw entry for our featured movie of the evening (please contact ccamovienight@gmail.com for our next title ;-) Please remember that this is a family event and all children must be accompanied by an adult. There is NO COST for the movie and there will be snacks and refreshments available for purchase at the concession. Thanks to our benefactors, your Crossroads Community Association, Vista Heights Action Committee and Dr Kolbi Brost of Brost Chiropractic and Wellness Centre, all proceeds from the concession go towards various Youth Groups within Crossroads. Crossroads Multicultural Festival - submitted by Shannon Keetch Yahoo! Our budget has been approved, and the Multicultural Festival Committee is well on its way to putting together a great show for the residents of Crossroads and beyond. The Calgary Folk Arts Council has heard about us and has agreed to provide dance groups from over ten different countries, as well some returning favorites. The International Buffet is also taking off with some of our regular sponsors, Spolumbo’s Fine Foods and Deli and those fabulous samosas. The Resource Fair will have lots to see and do. So come have a bite to eat, get some henna and get ready to be entertained. Since this year doesn’t have an evening show, we have been focusing our energy to bring you a fun filled day. Building Alberta: Budget 2013 delivers responsible change Budget 2013, presented on March 7, delivers responsible change for Albertans. It strikes a balance between delivering for Albertans today and ensuring success for Albertans 20 years from now when five million people will call our province home. Budget 2013 is a big step in the direction we need to go as a province. As we continue to feel the impact of the bitumen bubble, our budget will maintain our investment in core programs and services, while putting us on a path to spend smarter, live within our means and work on expanding markets and getting higher prices for Alberta’s resources. We will not raise taxes, but instead challenge every dollar government spends through results based budgeting and holding the line on salaries for public service managers and MLAs. We have embarked on important and necessary structural change to government and our choices are focused on ensuring Albertans continue to receive the outcome they expect. We know Albertans expect us to save in good times and in bad. Budget 2013 will introduce an annual, legislated savings strategy for the province. Under our new savings plan, the province’s total savings in various funds – including the Heritage Savings Trust Fund – will grow to more than $24 billion over the next three years. This will ensure we’re leaving a legacy for the future generations. Albertans also told us to continue investing in needed infrastructure. The province will invest $15 billion into the infrastructure projects over the next three years, including $5.2 billion this year. We will continue building Alberta by investing in the schools, health facilities and roads needed in our communities and that will help our economy grow. This budget builds on Alberta’s strengths, our strong economy and our ability to stand tall in the face of challenges. It’s a responsible plan that will chart the future course of our province, ensuring the tough decisions we’ve made today bring prosperity for future generations. I encourage you to read more about Alberta’s provincial budget at www.budget 2013.alberta.ca Budget 2013: Calgary Highlights • $158 million is allocated for health projects and facilities • $60 million this year for the South Calgary Health Campus • More than $101 million for various housing programs, including family, seniors and special needs housing and homeless emergency shelters • Nearly $35 million for policing and more than $1 million for the Victims Program • $40 million in 2015-16 for University of Calgary Schulich School of Engineering expansion and renewal • $30 million between 2014-16 to Mount Royal University for a new Library and Learning Centre. No funding 2013-14 • $19 million for the Foothills Medical Centre • $15 million in 2013-14 and $122 million over three years for the Peter Lougheed Centre • More than $254 million for infrastructure through the Municipal Sustainability initiative • $51 million for the Green Transit Incentive Program (Green TRIP) in the Calgary Region • $143 million for ring road construction and water infrastructure projects • Southeast Stoney Trail (total P3 project valued at $769 million) will be completed in the fall 2013 ALBERTA As your MLA for Calgary-East, I am always available to assist constituents.
