Appendix Table 1 August 2010 European Commission Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion <strong>Recommendation</strong> <strong>from</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Scientific</strong> <strong>Committee</strong> on Occupational Exposure Limits for aniline The two OSHA methods, OSHA method PV 2118 and a modified version of <strong>the</strong> OSHA method PV 2118, gave virtually similar results and results were not significantly influenced by humidity or temperature (McKernan et al. 2008). Thus, results <strong>from</strong> <strong>the</strong> NIOSH (limit of detection: 0.6 µg/sample and limit of quantitation: 2 µg/sample (Pendergrass 2004)) and <strong>the</strong> modified OSHA method are tabulated below. The OSHA method has a higher detection limit than <strong>the</strong> NIOSH method (http://www.osha.gov/dsg/guidance/101707diacetyl-meeting-notes.html, accessed 12, December 2008). In consequence, comparisons were not included where <strong>the</strong> NIOSH method detected diacetyl, but no diacetyl was detected in <strong>the</strong> modified OSHA method (Table I: [NIOSH (+);OSHA (0)]/N samples= 4/24 and Table II: [NIOSH (+);OSHA (0)]/N samples= 3/30 (McKernan et al. 2008)); this would presumably have a limited influence on <strong>the</strong> comparison between <strong>the</strong> two methods due to <strong>the</strong> limited number of data points excluded. The ratio between a result <strong>from</strong> <strong>the</strong> OSHA and <strong>the</strong> NIOSH method (B/A) cannot be calculated where <strong>the</strong> OSHA method detects diacetyl, but <strong>the</strong> NIOSH method detects no diacetyl (Table I: [NIOSH (0);OSHA (+)]/N samples= 3/24 and Table II: [NIOSH (+);OSHA (0)]/N samples = 14/30 (McKernan et al. 2008)) as such a ratio will be infinite. Thus, <strong>the</strong>se values have to be excluded <strong>from</strong> <strong>the</strong> calculations; Table I allowed <strong>the</strong> use of 15/24 and Table II <strong>the</strong> use of 5/30 data pairs (cf. McKernan et al. 2008). This lends a limited credit to a ratio calculated <strong>from</strong> <strong>the</strong> values of <strong>the</strong> remaining data pairs, which are listed below.
