Speedflying
What you should know:
Speed-flying is not a sport with a high following, because it’s hard to learn, to practise this sport.
Why? This extreme sport involves 2 main skill requirements, which are the following:
paragliding and off-piste skiing. So you can see that for this sport you need two unusual skills for
an even more unusual sport. Nothing for children.
The sport:
Speed-flying is something very new and very special. This sport is an excellent combination of
two high-adrenaline sports, paragliding and skiing. What you need for this sport is a parachute
and skis. Unfortunately it is banned on official pistes, so you can only do it off-piste. That means
that you have not got a trustable ground under your feet. It can come any time, that there is an end
to the snow and there are stones or a gap, and that’s why you have the parachute. When there is a
gap, then you can just launch off the ground, fly 100-300 meters and then land and go on skiing.
Sounds crazy, doesn´t it?

MLA Award
We (Mr. Mayr, Agnes, Kristóf, Krisztián, Vera) went to Vienna to pick up our Media Literacy
Award (MLA). We won this award because 25 pupils from the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th classes
made a radio project about Franz Liszt last school year. The opening ceremony took place in a
Kids Theatre, called “Dschungel” which is located in the famous ”Museumsquartier”.
It was very exciting and interesting. We saw
a collection of the best films which were
made over the last ten years and we met
participants from all over Austria. On the
second day Mrs Stanzer and the rest of our
project team (about 20 students) arrived in
Vienna to receive the award for our radio
programme.
The whole team had to go on stage and
answer some questions for the audience.
Finally we got the MLA statuette which will
get a special place in our school.
It was a fantastic project and a fantastic trip to Vienna and we hope that
we´ll get the chance to do some more projects in future.

Open day
The open day was on November 19th, 2011.
There were a lot of parents who could watch
and participate in the lessons. For hungry
people there was a buffet where you could
buy hot and cold drinks and food.
In the first and fifth grades they had lots of
people watching their lessons, because the
first graders are new to school and for the
fourth graders it is interesting to see what it´s
like in secondary school.
All in all it was a very good and successful day.
I am Ralph Bownas I am from England but I live in Hungary.
I like sports and some music. I play for a football club in Budapest.

Did you drink the new freshly
squeezed orange juice?
S: Yes, it tasted good. It is perfect for
children, because it is sugar-­‐free,
and it is made of real oranges. I like it.
What did you want to become when
you were young? Did it come it true?
S: It came true. I wanted to be a policeman,
and I was. When I was a child it was my
dream.
Were you a good student in school,
what kind of marks did you have?
S: I had only good marks, but one or
two subjects were a little bit hard for me.
What were your difficult subjects?
S: Maths and Physics.
When do you wake up to come to school? Do you live far from the building?
S: I wake up at 5 o´clock, because I like to be early in the school.
Do you watch soaps after school? For example: Barátok Közt, Friends (Jóbarátok)?
S: I don’t watch soaps, but I always watch the NEWS.
What do you do in the mornings when the children are in the lessons?
S: I go outside the school.
Do you like the porter job?
S: I needed the job because my wife died, and I had to
pay for my son’s university.
All of the children like you...
S: I like the children very much, and I’m happy when new
children come to school.
Do you have animals at home?
S: I haven’t got any time for animals but I have a house with
garden, so I have a place for animals. When I was a kid I had
many dogs, turkeys and horses. I liked riding the horse.
I know that you were a policeman, but did you have problems with the police?
S: I always drove the car according to the rules. The police never arrested me.

Snowboarding
The development of
snowboarding was inspired by
skateboarding, sledding, surfing
and skiing. It was developed in
the U.S.A. in the 1960s and 1970s
and became a Winter Olympic
Sport in 1998.
Since I have been snowboarding, I have forgotten how to ski. I think snowboarding is the
best winter sport. It’s cool, and it is very easy to learn. I learned snowboarding at the
school trip in Austria in the 6 th class. The first few days I wanted to give up because it can
really make you tired. By the last days I loved snowboarding so I didn’t want to go home.
Some of my mates were also snowboarding with me. I think the best snowboarders in
our class are Áron, Mark V., and Heny. Áron and Mark were in the beginner group with
me, but they were too good. Dorian, who really liked to learn snowboarding, became
sick on the first day, and couldn’t learn. If he hadn´t become sick, I think he would have
been better than me. I felt really sorry for him. This year I am sure he will become a
really good snowboarder.

Karate
Karate came from Japan. It was invented by
Funakosi Gicsin in the year 1917. There are
five styles of karate: Shotokan, Shito-ryu,
Wado-ryu, Kyokushin, and Goju-ryu. I do
the Shotokan style.
There are four competitions in the autumn and five in the spring. The main competitions are
the European Championships and the Hungarian Championship. On the European
Championships I was second, but at the Hungarian Championships I was second once, third
twice and forth twice. I was six years old when I started karate.

My hobbies are karate (of course) playing computer games and

The new winter sport
Tubing on snow is a wintertime activity that is
similar to sledding. Compare with the aqua park
you are sliding on slope. The only difference is
that the slope is made of snow. If you start you
can’t stop until you the end of the slope. It is also
possible to tow a tube through the snow behind a
snowmobile. Try it if you want have some fun!
Hi, my name is Marci! I am 13 years old and I like
snowboarding, computers and cycling.
Snow tubing is said to have begun as far back as the
1820s in the Alpine Mountains. It´s not a new sport,
but I think most of you don´t know anything about
snow-tubing. It´s a big inflated thing in the form of a
donut. The snow-tube is a kind of float and the idea
of today’s snow tubing came from the aqua park.
The snow tube is fast and totally uncontrollable.

Diving
Diving is an ancient activity or sport, which later
became a profession as well, when people had to do
research under the sea. Divers looked for sunken boats
and treasures or tried to prevent accidents under the sea.
Ancient Romans and Greeks had no equipment, so they
sometimes used a hollow reed which is very similar to
the snorkel today.
Only in the 13th century were the first goggles
invented with windows made of tortoise shell.
Later in the 16th century Leonardo da Vinci
invented the diving bell which allowed divers
to breathe well, and water couldn’t fill the bell.
The most important equipment for divers is the
breathing device. The regulator was invented
only in the 19th century. The diving suit also
appeared in the 19th century.
SCUBA diving is the most famous nowadays. It was
invented by Emile Gagnan and Jacques-Yves
Cousteau who is a well known researcher and
filmmaker who studied the sea and all forms of life
in the water. The set contains a tank with
compressed gas and mouthpiece
I passed several exams for SCUBA diving. I have
already dived in the Mediterrian Sea in Croatia and
the Red Sea in Jordan and Egypt. My deepest
distance was 35 meters! I love watching fish,
playing with octopuses or swimming across a
shipwreck. Diving is safe if you keep all the rules.
For example, you learn all the signs for
communicating under water, you never dive alone,
take care of your buddy and follow the instruction of
the dive master.

Blob fish:
One of the ugliest animals
in the world
The Blob fish is one of the inhabitants of the deep waters off the coasts of Australia and
Tasmania. This Fish lives at the bottom of the sea and so only scientists are able to see them.
Blob fish are found at depths where the pressure is several dozens of times higher than at sea
level.
The gelatinous mass of the Blob fish´s body is practical; it’s able to stay near the sea floor
without spending energy on swimming. The fish looks like a jelly head. So much about the
2nd ugliest animal.

Vampire Diaries
Hi! I’mChristian Schmied. I am 12 years old. I live in Hungary,
Budapest. I love animals and the nature. I have two mice and I
love playing with them.
Tower Heist
This is a very good film about life in a very expensive
skyscraper and about a robbery. One flat in the
skyscraper costs 5 million dollars. And so this is the
most expensive flat in America. Ben Stiller is the
manager of the hotel. In the hotel there are working
ca.200 people. On top of the skyscraper lives a very
rich man whose flat is very big. The workers give all
their money to him because he promises to make a
profitable investment. But he doesn´t do anything. He
keeps the money and spends some on luxury goods
like a Ferrari.
The last book I read was the ’Vampire Diaries’. This book was
written by Lisa Jane Smith. It is an interesting book about
vampires and werewolves. The main characters are: Elena,
Damon Stefan, Caroline and Katherine. Elena, Stefan and
Carolina go to the same high school, they are classmates. Stefan
is in love with Elena and Damon turned Caroline into a vampire.
The vampires have enemies, the werewolves. They fight
against each other. I love this book because it is exciting and
funny. Sometimes I watch it on TV. I recommend it to
everybody.
The workers lose their money and they are very angry. Next door to Ben lives Eddie Murphy. He
is a robber who was in prison once. Eddie, Ben and three other people plan a robbery because
they want to steal the money „back”....
In the end they find out that the rich man´s Ferrari is made of gold! They steal the expensive car
and everybody gets their money back. That means somebody got the wheel of the car, another
one the exhaust pipe and so on.

Clique
New school. Complications. Money.
This book is on top of The New York Times bestseller list and only
here, and only now in the OME magazine!! But only for girls!
The rich families in New York want their children to go to the
Octavian school. But they don’t know that in the school a clique of
four girls decide what’s cool, what’s sticky, what’s in and what’s out.
Everybody wants to be in that clique because they are afraid of the
four friends’ sarcastic humour, and their cruel critiques.

the house of the clique-leader, Massie. The two girls’ fathers are old friends. Claire’s family lives
in the guesthouse, because they haven’t got enough money for their own house. So Claire and

Massie hates her from the first moment, the Clique does everything to make Claire’s life as bad as
they could make it.

Wow, we all know that Lady Gaga is a really `hot` woman but I think you didn´t know that her

Rammstein Concert
I went to a Rammstein concert on October 10, 2011. I was very happy to be able to go there
because there were 25 thousand people in the sports arena. In addition to that, Rammstein
has always been one of my favourite groups.
My name is Daniel Molnar. I live in a flat in Budapest with my
mom. I am 13 years old. My hobbies are unicycling, riding a
motorbike, listening to music, playing tennis and the piano and
swimming.
Rammstein began to
play industrial metal
music in 1994. They
quickly became very
famous both in Germany
and abroad. Their
popularity is partly due
to the great amount of
special effects they use
on stage. Their video
clips are also very
interesting.
Their lyrics are written first in German, but also in Spanish, French and Russian. They
have a lot to say, their songs always have a very strong message. Their band is known all
over the world and they have sold over 15 million CDs.
When RAMMSTEIN was here they ”blew up” the whole arena. The musicians and the
technicians in the background shot fire out of flame-throwers.. After one song the pianist
got in a rubber boat and was carried around over the audience. It was a real killer concert,
I enjoyed it very much. If they come to Budapest in the near future, I will go to their
concert again.

Amy Winehouse
I would like to write about Amy Winehouse, who died on July 23, 2011 at the age of 27.
Amy Winehouse was a very famous and talented singer.. I chose her, because I love her
music very much and I am sorry that such a talented young woman died of alcohol
poisoning. It is horrible!

Chocolate cake
My favourite recipe: Chocolate cake
What you need (ingredients):
1 cup espresso
120 gr dark chocolate
120 gr butter
100 gr flour
120 gr sugar
and 3 eggs
It's pretty easy to make. First melt the chocolate, the butter, the sugar and a cup of coffee in a pan
on low heat. Then take it off the stove and add egg yolks. Then beat the egg whites to foam, and
gently mix it into chocolate. Then bake it at 250°C for ten minutes on with baking paper. Then
take it and put it into the fridge for 4-5 hours. Done!

The Sugar Shop
Do you want to eat sweets? Then the best place for you is the Sugar Shop. When you are in it,
you have the feeling it is paradise. On the right side, there is a big confectionery with colourful
and very tasty cakes. I tasted a triple chocolate cake, and it was brilliant.
On the right side in transparent boxes, are a hundred kinds of gums and specialties dipped in
chocolate. In addition there are unique and creative things. For example: sweet earrings, pink,
hairy telephones and sugar dispensers. But above all, the most famous sweet in the Sugar Shop
are the “Jelly Beans”. There are many flavours. It has every fruit flavour but there are some
special flavours too. For example: Soda, Tutti-Frutti. My favourites are the chilli-cinnamon and
the mango.
Who should definitely go there?
• Everybody who likes funny things.
• Everybody who likes tasty things.
• Everybody who likes fashionable things.
Who should definitely avoid that place?
Whoever hates birthdays and wants to lose his friends.
Whoever wants to lose 5 kilos a month.
Whoever doesn’t want to lose all his pocket money within an hour.

Ice skating
Winter is here!
You can do a lot of things in winter, but the best thing
is going ice skating at Városligeti Műjégpálya in
Budapest.
Last year we couldn´t go to this place, because it was
under reconstruction. But now we again can go to the
Városligeti Műjégpálya! It is the biggest open ice rink in
Budapest and it is in the center of Budapest behind
Heroes Square „Hősök tere”.
The tickets are very cheap and it is open every day until 8pm. Go and enjoy a nice day on the ice!
