CONTENUR
www.contenur.com
In the previous edition of this Newsletter, we wrote about
opening our branch in Poland and about starting production
activities there in March this year. We also promised to
expand on what, at the time, was just a brief summary about
a major event in our company.
We are pleased to announce that the first few months of
operations have gone really well. They have not been
entirely problem-free, as any project like this has a learning
curve. But we still hit our targets, some even ahead of
schedule.
Grzegorz
NEW ADDITIONS
So today most of Contenur's clients in this part of Europe are
already being supplied from the new factory. We have
achieved this whilst strictly abiding to the product and service
quality standards expected of the Contenur brand. We
have been able to adapt so quickly because we picked high
quality people who understood and adapted perfectly to our
company philosophy.
The new Contenur factory in the Polish city of Mielec is
equipped with the best technology available at this time
and is designed to grow according to market changes. This
Poland
the market leader in the waste container systems sector,
mainly in Poland but also in the other countries in the region.
These markets will have to work hard over the next few months
and years to adapt their current collection systems to today's more
modern, efficient context. This is the ideal context to showcase the
solutions designed by Contenur, our vast experience in other
European countries and the proximity of our production unit to
these countries. This is the rationale behind our venture.
We hope to give you an insight in the following issues by
describing the many success of our team in Poland.
Contenur Polonia makes a strong
start to its dealings in the market
The Lithuanian City of Kaunas
(337,000 inhabitants) was one
of the first East European
cities to put its trust in the
team at Contenur Polonia.
The Kaunas Council awarded
Contenur the supply of ten
thousand 240-litre rear-loading
containers. The company,
UAB ECOSERVICE, leader in
waste collection in Lithuania,
will be responsible for carrying
out container distribution.
CONTENUR
www.contenur.com
Since it was founded in 1985, Contenur has seen the internationalisation of its
activities as one of the key areas for development. We have a physical presence in
several countries: Spain, France, Portugal, Italy, the United Kingdom, Morocco and
recently we have opened a new sales office and manufacturing site in the city of
Mielec, in the south of Poland.
Piotr Wrona, Sales Director
for Contenur Poland, is
responsible for introducing
Contenur's values and philosophy
to the Polish market.
Q: What is the current status of the Polish market?
Piotr Wrona: Last year, the Polish government made
changes to the law on “Maintaining cleanliness and order in
municipalities” and set the deadline for
introducing these changes as 30 July 2013.
As a result, this year towns and cities are
preparing to implement the changes
resulting from this new legislation. The new
law introduced changes to the market, and
as from 1 July 2013, waste collection
companies will be awarded contracts
through open competitions for tender run by
local authorities for the provision of services
(currently each company signs an individual
contract with the respective authorities). This
will create a new division in the market.
This means the sector is currently
experiencing huge insecurity and waste
collection companies have postponed
decisions on investment until the contracts
have been awarded, which is obviously causing stagnation in
the sector.
Q: What can a company like Contenur bring to the
Polish market?
P.W: We are one of the three main European companies
operating in this sector: this has a lot to do with our considerable
experience so we want to share this with our clients.
Our offer includes some products that are so far unknown in
the Polish market; side loading containers are just one
example. This is an innovative system, which is still not used
here; it is completely secure and comes with several
advantages, including a 50% reduction in service costs.
In-depth
interview
“We are going to play an active role in developing
the Polish waste management sector”
“The products we
manufacture in Mielec
are better suited to
the local market, a
market which has
turned out to be more
demanding than
some other countries
in Eastern Europe”
I think over the coming years underground containers will
gain popularity in Poland. As our country matures, this
solution will become more popular. And, above all, the
appearance of a new player in the market will raise the
competition and increase the pressure on current providers.
“The products we manufacture in Mielec are better suited to
the local market, a market which has turned out to be more
demanding than some other countries in Eastern Europe”
Q: What do you think are Contenur Poland's strengths for
developing its activities within this market?
P.W: We are the only company in this sector to build a
factory in Poland, which means we are
closer to our customers, we can adapt
better to their needs and tailor our
approach in delivering what they want.
The products we manufacture in Mielec
are better suited to the local market, a
market which has turned out to be more
demanding than some other countries in
Eastern Europe. I am sure that as
Contenur Poland we will take an active
role in developing the Polish waste
management sector and we will keep
delivering what we know will be the
latest technological and organisational
solutions.
Q: What goals has Contenur Poland set
itself for the next few years?
P.W: “Contenur: No. 1 in Poland” and “Contenur: No. 1 in
Central Europe” are our aims for the next few years and we
have already begun setting the wheels in motion.
“Satisfied clients, quality products at affordable prices,
constantly developing and enhancing our services”, these are
all predictable management statements, but at Contenur
they practise what they preach. Having worked here for over
a year I have been able to see this for myself.
And, last but not least, is our employees' personal
development. We make sure they have opportunities for
improvement and to gain experience as well as job stability,
which, in current times is priceless.

CONTENUR
www.contenur.com
From now on, the local authority in
Chilches is using a single contract to
manage practically all its collection and
transport services for waste generated
throughout the town, including paper/card,
light and bulky containers/bottles, cuttings
and garden waste and plastics from
farming activities.
Not content with this, the council has also
changed the container collection system;
moving from a rear pick-up to a side
loading system for the containers used in
selective waste collection (plastics and
paper/card), as well as all general waste.
All the collection containers themselves
have been replaced in line with the new
collection method.
This town in the Castellón region has chosen Contenur's 2,400 litre capacity side loading containers, which have been supplied
with lid-opening pedals and personalised with the council's coat of arms.
Chilches town council has helped modernise the city's container fleet thanks to Contenur, and by taking this step has managed
to increase waste collection efficiency, which has in turn meant a significant improvement both from a financial and ecological
perspective.
Contenur's Side Loading System chosen for Móstoles (Madrid)
The Madrid suburb of Móstoles has recently switched to our 2,400 litre capacity side loading containers. Urbaser, the company
awarded the contract for city cleaning, has decided to include a new fleet of easy-access side loading containers to make it easier
for people with reduced mobility to use these products. Our product is the only one on the market to receive a certificate with
top marks from Vía Libre (Grupo Fundosa-ONCE), a foundation for assisting people with physical disabilities and visual
impairment. The product has been widely accepted in the areas where it has been installed previously, including Seville, Bilbao,
Getafe (Madrid), Palencia and Zaragoza, to name but a few.
The containers supplied have grey bodies and green lids for collecting non-recyclable waste, and yellow lids for recyclable
containers. They have also been personalised using thermal printing, with the town council's coat of arms in silver.
+We have been working with this council for a while, and they have continued to choose our solutions as being the best suited
to the needs and character of their town. With this new contract, Urbaser and the Móstoles Town Council have chosen Contenur
to enhance the town's safety and sustainability.
and managing payments, as well
as managing customer portfolios
CONTENUR
www.contenur.com
Managing electricity consumption, saving water and risk
prevention within the working environment are three key
points that have a major impact for Contenur.
Contenur has developed a global Corporate Responsibility
policy which identifies long-term goals that reflect the most
important financial, social and environmental aspects of our
CONTENUR and CSR
Agreement between Contenur and Grupo Fundosa
For almost two years, Contenur and Fundosa Accesibilidad
(Vía Libre), part of Grupo Fundosa de Fundación ONCE (a
foundation for assisting people with physical disabilities and
visual impairment), have been working together to design new
play items for children to create inclusive areas.
The outcome of this collaboration between our two
organisations has been a set of methodology guidelines for
designing children's play areas for individual items and for fully
equipped play areas. The aim of this project from the very
beginning was to design areas that fulfil all the requirements for
Corporate Social
Responsibility
work. This corporate strategy sets out goals and practices
such as regular reviews of water consumption or electricity
usage, to identify possible improvements and to guarantee
optimisation and energy efficiency across all our facilities.
This report is also the opportunity for Contenur to reflect its
commitment to being an environmentally-responsible
company, based on the principle of respecting the
environment and being committed to sustainable
development, which has led us to develop and implement a
Quality policy with various objectives and procedures that
must be achieved or fulfilled by all the company's
departments.
When we implemented the Corporate Social Responsibility
policy, the pillars we used to underpin it were equality and
personal and professional development. Another of the
fundamental pillars was setting out a risk prevention policy to
guard against accidents in the workplace: this oversees the
health and safety of our employees. In addition, it also sets
out the commitments and responsibilities that employees
within the Contenur Group must assume and adhere to.
a play area that can be used by children with and without
disabilities. When children play together they learn to
appreciate others' abilities and similarities, which is why we
poured all our efforts into creating these inclusive areas so that
everyone can play regardless of their physical, mental or
sensory abilities.
Thanks to this agreement with Vía Libre, Contenur has been
able to develop and design children's play areas taking every
possible aspect into consideration so that children with
disabilities do not feel isolated from playing with other children.
ISO 9001 / ISO 14001
ISO 9001 is an international certification
for quality management covering the
areas directly involved in the company's
production system. By implementing this
standard we are hoping to achieve a high
level of efficiency which will allow us to
manage and improve the quality of our
products and services.
The ISO 14001 international certification
sets out how to implement an
Environmental Management System,
which when implemented will cover all
aspects of how an organisation manages
its environmental responsibilities.
Corporate
Certification
One of our company objectives is to promote respect for the environment and the sustainable development of our cities through
the design and manufacture of quality products and services which are attractive to look at and provide real solutions to the
challenges of waste management.
CONTENUR was one of the first Spanish companies to implement the ISO 14000 international environmental management standard.
The quality aspect of our products and services has always underpinned every aspect of our company's work. All business streams
and processes at CONTENUR are certified to ISO 9001 and 9002 standards. Naturally, all our products conform to the relevant
European standard in each case, as certified by the most respected European laboratories and organisations, such as TÜV, LNE
and AENOR.
OHSAS 18001
OHSAS certification set out the requirements
behind a risk prevention management system
so that companies can monitor workplace risks
in order to improve the health and safety
For Contenur, these two certificates mean
a continuous improvement in manufacturing
processes, sales and marketing and
developing containers, as well as making
a solid commitment to the environment.
By implementing these standards,
Contenur has managed to achieve
improvements in its production and
organisational processes, eliminating any
less than efficient activities and
streamlining our activities to help create
quality products and services.
of their employees. It manifests as a single
management system being implemented for
everyone and the harmonisation of criteria and
procedures relating to preventing workplace risks.
Our products are manufactured according to the European legislation
applicable in each case, as attested to by the certificates from Europe's
most prestigious testing laboratories and bodies; including TÜV and
AENOR among others.

FSC Certificate
FSC certification (Forest Stewardship
Council) uses a checkmark-and-tree logo
and code to identify those products that are
sourced from sustainably farmed forests.
Both our newsletter and our children's
parks are certified with the FSC mark.
UN Certification
The AENOR product certificate is a
distinctive stamp awarded to those
products which have undergone various
assessments and tests proving they comply
with today's legislation.
The purpose of AENOR certification is to
guarantee that Contenur brand containers
are manufactured in accordance with the
requirements demanded by European
legislation EN-840-1/2/3/5/6 in terms of size,
mechanical performance, health and safety.
The GS standard certificate issued by the
German body, TÜV SÜD, states that the product
The UN logo certifies that our products are
suitable for use in the transport of
dangerous goods: clinical waste, nonspecific
clinical waste or regulated (bio)
Corporate
Certification
What Contenur hopes to achieve is to
contribute to eliminating the use of wood
from illegal felling and also to support the
work of forest owners and managers who
are committed to the responsible social and
environmental management of forests.
has been rigorously tested according to the
regulatory requirements of a laboratory
authorised by the ZLS (Zentralstelle der
Länder für Sicherhutstchnik) and which
fulfils the requirements of the German law
on product safety (ProdSG) in regard to
health and safety.
With the GS stamp, Contenur assures its
clients that its products are safe and top
quality. Contenur's products have been tested
in a laboratory and the production facilities
have been subject to preliminary inspections.
medical waste; thus guaranteeing that
Contenur's products provide levels of safety
in compliance with prevailing legislation.
One of the indicators that confirms our status as an enterprising company at
the cutting edge of innovation, is the number of intellectual property
registration applications Contenur has made since it set up its Product
Development Department.
Contenur UK takes part at the RWM Exhibition in Birmingham
The Recycling and Waste Management Exhibition
(RWM) took place on 11-13 September. More than 72
countries were represented at the exhibition, and this
year saw visitor numbers increase by over 6%.
The Contenur UK stand exhibited the more traditional
products with a huge presence in the UK market, such
as two and four-wheeled clinical waste containers, our
Europa and Milenium range of litter bins and the range of
disposal columns for underground containers.
Contenur exhibits for the first time at the Green Middle East Exhibition
in the United Arab Emirates
The Green Middle East Exhibition took place in the city of Sharjah
between 15-17 October. One of the main objectives of this
exhibition is to offer the environmental and recycling industry in
the Sharjah region a comprehensive perspective on
developments in global sustainability.
Contenur had its own stand, and exhibited some of its products
including the 2,400 litre side loading container and the 120 and
240 litre rear loading products. The side loading containers could
be viewed in the open air exhibition area. The containers
exhibited were in green and blue, the same colour combination
as supplied to the region in recent months.
Contenur takes part at the International
Environment Fair in Peru
FIMA Perú, the International Environment Fair, held in Lima between 2-4 August, has established itself as a major hub for offering
solutions for the protection and conservation of the environment and biodiversity in Peru. It also provides a suitable stage for
promoting and marketing environmentally-related goods and services, launching programmes and projects within the field of
sustainable development, and for sharing eco-efficient business experiences.
This was Contenur's first attendance at FIMA and proved a very positive experience. Our stand was visited by a number of local
clients and distributors who were interested in our range of products. At the Contenur stand they could see our rear, side and
vertical loading solutions, as well as our wide range of personalised litter bins, which were feature products on our stand.

The Milenium underground model is right at home
in the Portuguese market
The town of Paredes in north-east Portugal has chosen Contenur to roll
out a fleet of underground containers on its refuse collection routes. The
system chosen is the double hook, 3 m 3 system with selective collection
and green waste collection facilities. The underground system is heading
for the university complex at Gandra, where the volume of waste
generated is one of the highest in the region. The town of Paredes chose
this system because it is the best suited to the city and users' needs.
Side loading containers for the Italian city of Genoa
A.M.I.U. S.p.A. Genoa has chosen Contenur's CCL-3200L model for its
collection routes as it is the best suited for the city's hilly terrain. Our
model, made from high density polyethylene, is the only one with a UN EN
12574 - 1/2/3 standard certificate and complies with all the specifications
required by this standard.
The containers have been supplied in yellow for bottles and plastics, in
white for paper and cardboard, and finally in green for all other, nonrecyclable
waste. The latter has a built-in lid-opening pedal to make it easy
for users to insert their rubbish.
Contenur containers at Versailles
Versailles Grand Parc, an urban area 15 km to the south-west of Paris, has chosen our new two and four-wheeled rear loading
containers for new systems in all its 14 suburbs. The contract does not just include the supply of containers, Contenur will also
handle cleaning and maintenance for all street furniture for a 4-year period.
The containers have been supplied in various sizes and colours, and personalised using thermal printing in white with the
council's initials.
The Versailles Grand Parc community has a strict policy commitment to sustainable development and respecting the
environment, and has therefore opted to install a system that fulfils and adapts to the municipality association's most exacting
requirements in environmental matters.
