CALCULATING YIELDS
G R A I N F O R M U L A
All crop yields can be easily calculated by using the following formula
and inserting the appropriate factor for each crop from the table below.
Yield = (100 - moisture) x (lb. of grain) x (factor) ÷ (row length in
feet) ÷ (row width in inches x number of rows) Example: 4,000 lb. of
17.5% shelled corn from 8.30” rows, 1,000’ long. Yield = 82.5 x 4000
x 109.815 ÷ 1000 divided by 240” = 151.0 bu/acre.

Conversion factor for ear corn = 90.439
Compare hybrids or varieties grown side-by-side with equal cultural
practices and environment.
SILAGE FORMuLA: (100 - actual % silage moisture) x (green weight
silage in tons/A.) ÷ (30) = Tons/A. of silage adjusted to 70% moisture.
For 65% moisture silage, ÷ 35 instead of 30. For dry weight basis, ÷ 100.
