DISTRICT CHAMPS!

2012 has been a good year for
our soccer boys. For the first
time during the 5 year program,
the team achieved first place at
districts in the Championship
Game against Cape Central

On Saturday
October 20th, our Varsity
Competition Cheerleading
Squad traveled to Columbia
to perform at the 2012 State
Championships. The event was
held in the Hearnes Center at
the Mizzou campus.

with a 3-2 score. To play in this
game, the boys had to score a
victory against Farmington
They next traveled to Windsor
to play in Sectionals. Unfortunately,
after playing regular
time and 2 overtimes, the team
lost in a penalty kick shoot out.
Our students, the players’ families,
and coaches are very proud
of the boys. Coach Spinner
said, “I’m really proud of how

“The King Has Left
the Building!”

This year the 2012 marching
buccaneers had many obstacles
to overcome. Two brand-new
directors, no show or music
written until the week before
band camp, and many others.
In spite of all of this they were
able to pull together an award
winning show, entitled “The
King.” Their show included
four famous Elvis songs; Are
you Lonesome Tonight, Fever,
Heartbreak Hotel, and, Bridge
Black Friday is one of the most
chaotic nights of the year. On
November 23, 2012, shopping
was crazier then ever! The day
after you give thanks for what
you have, you go out and fight
for more!
In Chester a fight broke out
in Walmart. In Cape, Target
experienced a morning power
outage.
In West Park Mall the line for
Bath and Body Works was
Over Troubled Water.
In addition to marching at our
home football games they took
their show to three competitions
and one festival. They traveled
to Jackson, Charleston, Park
Hills, and Ste. Gen. Over the
course of these competitions
they received three trophies,
including one for outstanding
percussion. Great Job on the
good season!
BLACK FRIDAY

Making
Waves

The Perryville Swim Team
is now part of a co-op of PHS
and St.Vincent’s. “The team
this year has a lot of talent and
are dominating,” said Coach
Hunter.
Swimming seems to be the
sport to get PHS into shape,
too. Megan Craft said, “People
should not underestimate
swimming because it works every
muscle in your body. My
thighs felt like rocks after the

With the determination of the
players and what they call, “a
heart of a champion” the volleyball
team fought there way
to state. The team received 4th
in state making history because
volleyball has never been to
state.
Alex Spears said, “it was indescribable,
the best feeling
ever.” Becky Barber liked getting
out of school early to go to
practice.
Coach Mirly said felt honored
to be there and hopes to go
back next year. Congratulations
to our Volleyball Team!

their routine during the summer
and later placed second
at Regionals held at The Perry
Park Center in July. There’s a
third place or higher at Regionals
required to advance to the
State competition..
The 14 girls performed Sunday
morning against 12 other
squads in the 3A Small division.

in the summer and fall,
hard work, and determination,

Hurricane
Sandy

As you all know this natural
disaster Hurricane Sandy devastated
portions of the Caribbean,
Mid Atlantic and North
Eastern United States during
late October 2012.
Sandy developed from a tropical
wave in the West Caribbean
Sea. It quickly strengthened,
and was upgraded to tropical
storm Sandy 6 hours later.
Sandy was massively destructive
to homes, power, vehicles
and many other things. In Jamaica
winds left 70% homes
without electricity, and blew
roofs off buildings.
In Puerto Rico one man was
swept away by a swollen river.
Cuba there was flooding, wind
damage, and destroyed 15,000
homes killing 11 people.
Even here in Missouri, untouched
by the damage, we
will always remember the news
reports and footage of this devastating
event!

Julia Unterreiner owns a small
crusted gecko named Ammo.
He is tannish green in color and
has no tail. “But that’s okay,”
she says, “because it made him
cheaper!” Julia likes to play
with him in her free time and
watch him crawl around with
his sticky feet.
Layne Franklin has a few
interesting reptiles he would
like to share with his fellow
students. To start with, he has
Bella, a bearded dragon that’s
about a foot long in length. Bella

Dawn Part 2

As you all know the newest
film of The Twilight Saga just
came out. It seemed like this
time around people were not as
crazy as they were before. The
only thing that seemed to stay
the same was that every time
Taylor Lautner came on the
screen every girl in the theater
seemed to scream. There was
an unexpected twist toward the
end of this film that sent everyone
to the edge of their seats.
Most people would agree that
this was the best film in the
Twilight Saga. It is definitely a
must see movie!

AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY

The Hobbit (premiered December
14th) is the prequel to
the Lord of the Rings series.
At the midnight showing in
Cape, a few people dressed
up as dwarves and one person
dressed up as Bilbo himself.
With great songs and action
packed scenes, you won’t
be disappointed. The 3D is
amazing and the effects make
you feel like you could be in
Middle Earth yourself. It is a
must see for all sci-fi and action
fans and you don’t have
to have seen the other three to
watch it.
Rudy are newer additions to
the Lukefahr’s donkey family.
They hope to eventually breed
the donkeys to sell.
Megan Craft also has two
donkeys in miniature. After
finding them on their farm in
Pocahontas near Cape, the family
named them Samson and
Teddy. The two like to show
their care for each other by
biting. Samson and Teddy only
come up to Megan’s hip. They
enjoy eating horse feed and
grass.

Tom Sawyer

“Tom Sawyer” was the Silver
Dagger Players fall production
of choice. With one of the
biggest casts they’ve had in a
while, a lot of new faces got
to try the stage in this classic
production. Tristin Dunker
played the part of Tom Sawyer,
Harley Taylor as Huck and
Kayla Wolf as of Becky.
Three performances were
done in all and each play
varied from the other. In one
play, Layne Franklin (Alfred
Temple) forgot apples for a
scene so he brought on cookies.
On another night, Kevin
Cowgur (Injun Joe) broke his
lamp while climbing through
the “cave” and had to improv
with no lights. All in all the
show was a hit.

Got Ink?

People have different reasons
to get tattoos or piercings,
maybe just to get attention or
they might want to show their
courage because getting a tattoo
or piercing can be a painful
process. Some people frown
on tattoos and piercings, associating
them with gangs and
prisoners.
However, there is no denying
their growing popularity
around here. Many people get
ink and piercings because it
means something important
to them---it may be the only
real thing they can take to the
grave.
Body modifications are also
something that gives some
originality; they could even
make the person feel better
about themselves. There are
a lot of students here at this
school with body mods.
Freshman PJ Stangl has three
tats including an ICP juggalo, a
skull pilot, and a cross. He was
eleven when he got his first
one done.
His brother Andy Stangl,
sophomore, also has three tats:
the word family, a Viking with
his first name, and his last
name across his back. Andy
was fourteen when his first tattoo
was done.
Junior, Dalton Green was
fourteen when he got his tattoo
of a cross with antlers.
Sophomore, Luke Hahn was
fifteen when he got his tattoo
of a freestyle motocross logo.
He said he regrets his though
because of the pain. Luke
also has 3/4 inch gauges and
snakebites.
All four of these guys said
they would get another tattoo.
If you plan on getting inked
you should make sure it is
something you’re going to be
okay with having for the rest
of your life and that you’re
ready to take care of it. The ink
is permanent, but if something
means that much to you, go
for it!

Three-Bread Stuffing
Ingredients
½ loaf sourdough bread
½ loaf rye bread
4Tbs. unsalted butter
1c. frozen chopped onions
3 stalks celery, chopped
2 med. carrots, chopped
Kosher salt and freshly ground
pepper
1 14oz. bag cornbread stuffing
2c. chicken broth
1c. turkey gravy
2 large eggs, beaten
½c. grated Parmesan
Directions
Cut the breads into one inch
cubes and spread them out onto
baking sheets. Leave out overnight
to stale. In a large skillet
over med. high heat, add
butter. When it is melted add
onion, celery and carrots. Season
with salt and pepper. Cook
until vegetables are soft, about
ten minutes. Turn off heat and
let cool a little bit. Preheat the
oven to 350. Butter a 9 by 13
inch baking dish. Put the bread
cubes into a large bowl with the
cornbread stuffing and add the
cooled vegetables. In a medium
bowl, whisk together the broth,
gravy, eggs, and poultry seasoning.
Pour over the bread and
mix; the mixture should be fairly
moist but not wet. If it seems
to dry, add more broth. Fill baking
dish with the stuffing and
top with the Parmesan. Bake
until the top is browned and the
stuffing is cooked through, 35-
40 minutes.

Bacon Cheddar
Mashed Potatoes
Ingredients:
½ lb. chopped bacon
½ lb. sharp cheddar cheese
¼ c. minced parsley
¼ c. minced scallions
2 lbs. Russet potatoes
½ sick of butter
1c. hot milk
salt and pepper
Directions
Cover potatoes with cold salted
water. Simmer 45 minutes.
Cook bacon until crisp. Drain,
peel, and mash potatoes with
butter and 4 Tbs of bacon drippings.
Add milk and salt and
pepper. Mash until smooth and
fluffy.
