BEAUFORT DISTRICT COUNCIL<br />

(STREETS AND PUBLIC PLACES) BY-LAWS 1964<br />

(G.N.L 17 of 1965)<br />

In exercise of the powers conferred upon it by section 50 of the Local Government Ordinance <strong>1961</strong>, the Beaufort<br />

District Council has made the following by-laws:<br />

1. Title and commencement.<br />

These by-laws may be cited as the Beaufort District Council (Streets and Public Places) By-laws 1964 and shall<br />

come into operation on the 1st day January 1965.<br />

2. Interpretation.<br />

In these By-laws, "streets" and public places" mean streets and public places under the control of or vested in the<br />

Council.<br />

3. Removal of barriers, etc..<br />

<strong>No</strong> person not authorised by the Council shall take down, alter or remove any barriers, signs or lights placed by<br />

the Council across or in any street.<br />

4. Blind, etc., not to encroach street or public places.<br />

<strong>No</strong> person shall hang any blind, awning or other structure from any building such as to encroach on to any street.<br />

5. Trees not to be damaged or removed.<br />

<strong>No</strong> person shall damage or remove any tree or vegetation growing along any street or in any public place.<br />

6. Maintenance of walls, etc..<br />

The owner or occupier of any premises shall keep his wall, fence, post or gate bordering on any street in a good<br />

state of repair.<br />

7. Parking of vehicles.<br />

<strong>No</strong> person shall, unless permitted by the Council, park his vehicle in any public place, and no person shall repair or<br />

mend any vehicle in any street or public place.<br />

8. Penalty.<br />

Any person who contravenes any of the provisions of these By-laws shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable<br />

to a fine of five hundred ringgit. [Mod. Act 160.]<br />

Dated at Beaufort this 15th day of December 1964.<br />
