rotected <strong>by</strong> <strong>coverings</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>skin</strong>, <strong>partly</strong> <strong>against</strong> <strong>damage</strong> from<br />

Erambles and <strong>partly</strong> to preserve the colour (Varro, R.R. ii. 2).<br />
