Introduction
BMC Remedy AR System 7.1.00 Compatibility Matrix
The BMC Remedy AR System 7.1.00 Compatibility Matrix is broken down into 6 areas:
• AR System Server
• AR System Mid-Tier
• AR System Clients
• AR System Full Text Search
• Compatibility with other products
• Comparison of support between versions
Each of these sections is broken down into 4 sections
• Supported Configurations
• Known Issues
• Potential Issues
Supported Configurations are those where the configuration is expected to work properly based on design, testing or general understanding of
the interaction between products. For supported configurations, BMC Customer Support will work with customers on an issue involving the
configuration until either the issue is resolved or a defect / enhancement is logged.
Configurations not listed may still operate properly with AR System and thus customers may choose to run AR System in a configuration not
listed as supported. Such configurations would be considered as “unconfirmed”. BMC Remedy will accept issues reported in unconfirmed
configurations but we reserve the right to request customer assistance in problem determination, including recreating the problem on a supported
configuration. Reported defects either found to be unique to an unconfirmed configuration or not reproducible within a supported environment will
be addressed at the discretion of BMC Remedy. Defects requiring time and resources beyond commercially reasonable effort may not be
addressed. If a configuration is found to be incompatible with AR System or ITSM applications, support for that configuration will be specifically
documented as not supported (or unsupported – c.f. Known Issues below).
The Known Issues section documents any known additional requirements or incompatibilities between BMC products and products from other
vendors. This list represents only those situations that BMC has encountered or researched and may not represent an exhaustive list.
The Potential Issues section document issues of supportability or incompatibility between BMC products and products from other vendors that
are for informational purposes only. Final word on these statements would need to be stated in documentation from the other vendor.
In all tables, Italics indicate an addition since AR System 7.0.01.

BMC Remedy AR System 7.1.00 Compatibility Matrix
Support Policy for later versions of vendor products released after AR System 7.1.00
It is expected that a vendor will retain full backwards compatibility with existing major or minor versions of an operating system when releasing
maintenance releases, service packs, patches, updates or other similar level of changes. Unless otherwise stipulated by written communication
from BMC Software, such maintenance level changes are by default supported and do not require further certification from BMC.
In the case of major and minor releases, unless otherwise stipulated by written communication from BMC Software, the goal is to provide support
for new major or minor version changes in the next available version of BMC Remedy products after the vendor makes their release generally
available. However, major architectural changes may take longer to tolerate and exploit and other business or technical reasons may require a
different release timeframe. At BMC’s discretion, new major or minor versions may be also added to the compatibility matrix between releases –
either through certification by BMC or through the release of an AR System patch.

BMC Remedy AR System 7.1.00 Compatibility Matrix
Known Issues for AR System Server Supported Configurations
1. AR System is compiled on 32-bit platforms with compatible 32-bit database connectivity libraries. 64-bit connectivity (either local or
remote) & execution depends on operating system and database compatibility requirements. Consult your operating system and database
vendors for information about compatibility support for 32-bit clients on 64-bit operating systems and how those 32-bit clients
communicate to a local or remote 64-bit database.
2. AR System can communicate with a database on the same machine as AR System or with a database installed on a remote system. BMC
has found the following clients (supplied from the vendor) to operate properly with AR System
• Oracle : 32-bit Oracle 10gR2 database client
• Sybase : 32-bit Sybase 12.5.3 database client (a.k.a. OpenClient 12.5.1.x)
• IBM DB2 : 32-bit 8.2.x database client
• Informix : 32-bit 9.2 Informix database client
3. Trusted extensions for Solaris are supported. Please see http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/faqs/security.xml for more information
4. Generally Available support for the Itanium processor is achieved through the ARIES translation engine provided with HP-
UX. AR System remains a 32-bit application and was compiled on a PA-RISC processor. Performance issues may result due
to the reliance on the ARIES translation engine. Please see http://devresource.hp.com/drc/STK/docs/refs/Aries.jsp for more
information. Also see the “BMC Remedy Action Request System 7.1.00 for HP-UX on Itanium-based HP Integrity servers”
Known Incompatibilities for AR System Server
1. A database is required for AR System. Flat files are not supported.
2. MS SQL Server x64 on Itanium is not supported.
Potential Incompatibilities for AR System Server
1. Oracle Corporation has stated that it does not support a 32-bit database client running on a 64-bit operating system. However, a 32-bit
client running on a 32-bit operating system communicating to a 64-bit database running on a remote 64-bit operating system is supported.
2. IBM may not support the version 8.2.x client when communicating to a version 9.1 database.
3. Some vendors may not yet support Java 6.0. Please check with your vendor for an official position on Java 6.0.
