2012
Exciting times! Welcome to our new undergraduate and postgraduate students, and
welcome back to last year’s students! There has been a lot going on in the department in the past 6
months; our staff and students have been busy, and we have a lot of news to tell.
STAFF NEWS
We have new lecturers joining our growing
department. Four new lecturers joined us
during the end of the previous academic year,
and we have a further 3 lecturers joining us
this semester. We are also currently
advertising for a new lecturer to join us in
semester 1.
Dr Rachel Manning joined us in February, and
will be teaching social psychology, theoretical
foundations in psychology, and qualitative
methods. Dr Richard Piech will be teaching
biopsychology, cognitive neuroscience, and
emotion. Dr Fiona Richardson will be teaching
language and thought, cognitive psychology, and quantitative research methods. Dr Steven Stagg will be
teaching atypical development, diagnosis and treatment in clinical child psychology, and developmental
psychopathology. An additional 3 lecturers are joining us this semester: Dr Fiona Ashworth is a clinical
psychologist, and will be teaching psychopathology, psychological therapies and developmental
psychopathology. Dr Theodora Zarkadi will be teaching language and thought, cognitive psychology, learning
memory and perception, and forensic psychology. Dr Gisela Perez-Olivas is joining us for 6 months
(maternity cover), and will be teaching developmental psychology, theoretical foundations in psychology and
psychopathology. You can find out more about our lecturers by looking at their staff profiles on our website:
Making a difference in teaching
In 2012, the Students’ Union, with the support of Anglia
Learning and Teaching, launched the student led 'Made a
Difference' Awards. Five psychology lecturers were
nominated by students for this award. Two of our lecturers,
Dr Helen Keyes and Dr Daragh McDermott won one of the
eight awards. Daragh and Helen were presented with their
awards at a ceremony held on the 11 th May (pictured left).
