Play Your Cards Right Aim To develop students' understanding of different types of numbers. You will need either Number Resource Sheet, photocopied on to card, or the 0 - 9 cards from SMILE 2226 Number Cards. Description The teacher shuffles the cards and take out five cards. These cards are then shown to the class. Students choose any three digits to create the different types of numbers which the teacher calls out. e.g. The five cards were: 2, 6, 1, 5 and 9. The teacher asks questions for a three digit number to make: • The highest possible even number • The highest possible odd number • The smallest possible even number • The nearest number to 500 • The nearest number to 1000 • The smallest odd number • The smallest number • The nearest odd number to 400
