Dear Parents and Friends,
You are all, of course, aware that Prouille School and
community has been gifted with remarkable new facilities
that were fully funded by The Catholic Schools Office
(CSO) in the past 18 months. The builders have now
‘signed off’ and CSO has therefore ceased funding any
further development.
Our Parents and Friends’ Association has accumulated
funds over the past years, and now is the time for us
to utilise this money to attend to several important needs
that have been identified. With the help of our
P+F Co-presidents (Julie Kelly and Alf Attard) and
school staff, a ‘wish-list’ has been compiled. This list
will be presented at the up and coming P+F General
Meeting for us to prioritise (I add that it will be a terrific
opportunity for anyone to add to the list too).
MEETING DATE: 20 FEBRUARY AT 7.30 PM
The Altar for our Chapel (St Dominic’s Chapel):
After consultation with the CSO and representatives from
the Bishop’s office, the interior of St Dominic’s Chapel is
‘taking shape’ beautifully.
A special feature of the chapel will be the altar that has
just been designed. Importantly, the stone in the altar will
be stone from the former Prouille Cottage.
After considering three quotes to build an altar, the school
has decided on a job that will cost $3900.
If any parents/friends/parishioners are keen to help
finance this project, you are invited to have
a conversation with me at school. I add that a discreet
plaque can be placed somewhere near the altar to
recognise any benefactor/s.
Additionally, a Holy Water Stoup will also be fashioned
out of stone from the former Prouille Cottage. At this
stage, I am unsure of the cost.

Thank you to all the parents who assisted to make the
Welcome Event in the back play area so special.
The Cake Stall (organised by our Stage 3 families) was
quite a success!
Welcome, Miss Melissa Jones:
As per my announcement at the recent ‘Meet the Teacher
Evening’, we welcome Miss Melissa Jones to Prouille
School staff. Melissa will be an Administration Assistant
and also a Teacher Assistant.
Melissa commenced today (Tuesday) and she will work
each week on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Prouille Open Day & Enrolment Interviews:
Prouille Open Day will be held on Friday 16 March from
9.00 am – 10.45 am. For catering purposes, please notify
if you are coming.
Enrolment Interviews for Kindergarten 2013 will be held
during the following week (Monday 19 March –
Friday 23 March). Please book your interviews early.

25 Years of Ministry
in Catholic School Education
Congratulations to Philip Ledlin, Prouille Principal and to
Tanya Armstrong, Prouille Assistant Principal, on
25 years of ministry in Catholic school education.
Both Philip and Tanya’s dedication will be acknowledged
during the Diocesan Schools’ Mass in the Cathedral
on Thursday 23 February.
An Opportunity to Participate in the
7th World Gathering of Families
Milan 2012
An exciting opportunity to participate in the 7th World
Gathering of Families in Milan has become available in
the Diocese. The event will take place from 30 May to
3 June this year.
Bishop David would be pleased to support two couples as
participants (Congress and meeting with the Pope).
The Diocese will pay for return flights from Sydney to
Milan, overseas transfers, taxes, registration,
accommodation and meals.
A selection process will apply in order to select the most
suitable participants, based on application and benefit to
the diocese, parish and the applicants. If you are
interested, please pick up an application form
(at the main entrance to the church).

Prouille Swimming Carnival
Just a reminder that all swimming entry forms and
permission notes were due in at the end of last week.
Thank you to all the parents who have kindly offered to
help at the carnival.
Over the next week the Colour Captains will be
organising their teams for war cry practice at school.
Diving
Any children who are experienced in competitive diving

to diocesan trials.

CHESS LESSONS AT
PROUILLE PRIMARY SCHOOL 2012
Come and play in your school chess club during
Thursday lunchtimes in the library! Term 1 coaching
begins on Thursday 16 th February from 12:30 pm –
1:30 pm. Students will be guided through the fascinating
world of chess strategy by an experienced coach from the
Sydney Academy of Chess. Using structured lessons and
chess puzzles, students will have the opportunity to
develop their logical and creative thinking skills to solve
problems, enhance their level of concentration, and
improve their self-confidence through mastering a new
skill. With continued practice, the skills that children
learn become especially useful in their future and studies
have shown that learning to play chess can often improve
the academic performance of students over time.
Chess can be a highly effective motivational tool as well,
providing children with a stimulating social environment
in which to learn. We believe the most remarkable aspect
of chess is not only what children learn, but how they
learn. We often see that kids can have so much fun
playing with their friends, they don’t even realise they are
developing those valuable skills.

SOCCER NEWS
It was exciting to see the new faces at Rego Day on
Saturday morning. For those that couldn’t make it, please
get to www.prouillesoccer.com.au as soon as possible.
Most urgently we need the Years 5 and 6 girls who want
to play in the All Girls comp this year to get online and
register as the KDSA are sorting them first:
Lots of kindies/U6 registered so far. This year
Head Coach and Head of Talent Development
Mr Steve Szaf will be running some pre-season basic
skills sessions with the Kindies/U6 so please keep an eye
out for the emails, and give your mates a nudge to get
registered - it's more fun when you are playing with
your buddies (and Mum & Dad can car-pool).
I was personally warmed by the new Prouille Dads
signing up on Saturday for O35s. It is a great way
to meet more of the Prouille community and a bit of
fitness never goes astray. Getting the kids out of the
house on a Saturday afternoon also helps to build the
brownie points on the home front, and we are never short
of babysitters at the game. It’s unlimited substitution
so don’t stress about your fitness levels.
We can still take more Dads so dob in a mate. If we can
get enough new recruits I can retire and play up front for
the O45 Golden Oldies (yes John, you should be
nervous).
The fields are looking great after all that rain - I can't wait
to pull on the boots and have a run.
