SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE OF <strong>HK</strong>-ENGINEERING´S NEW <strong>300SL</strong><br />

RACE-GULLWING AT THE „SOUNDS OF SPEED“ AT THE SALZBURG<br />

CIRCUIT<br />

On August 30th 2008 at the “Sound of Speed” at the Salzburg race circuit, the new Gullwing<br />

created by <strong>HK</strong>-ENGINEERING presented itself with outmost success. 42 cars were at the starting line.<br />

Hans Kleissl at the Gullwing steering wheel took the third place during training and came in 4th best<br />

in the race. Only pure breed racing cars were faster as Porsche 908 a Lotus 23 B and a Morgan Plus<br />

having a modern engine. The new Gullwing was prepared in time <strong>for</strong> the start at the Le Mans Classic.<br />

The appearance of the <strong>300SL</strong> was simply captivating and kept as close as possible to the original.<br />

Like in the past, two 300 SL were participating in the race. Basic car was a so called “container car” which<br />

rested <strong>for</strong> decades at a scrap yard somewhere in the US. Whatever is unseen under the body of the car<br />

was completely restored and its per<strong>for</strong>mance optimized like the first <strong>HK</strong>-ENGINEERING Gullwing.<br />

<strong>HK</strong>-ENGINEERING´S TWO YEARS PRESENCE AT THE MEILENWERK<br />

DÜSSELDORF<br />

Since Sept. 16th 2006, the Meilenwerk in the City of Düsseldorf opened its gates. It is open <strong>for</strong> all<br />

classic car enthusiasts. <strong>HK</strong>-ENGINEERING keeps there its own showroom and workshop specialized<br />

<strong>for</strong> all Mercedes cars. It took a year to accomplish the task. The general set-up was an 15 Mio.<br />

investment. Since the opening the whole area of 19 000 sqm has been fully rented out.<br />

Like in Berlin there is already a waiting list <strong>for</strong> the automotive warehousing. Event bookings are above<br />

every expectations. Many regional clubs would like to head <strong>for</strong> a ride to the Meilenwerk Düsseldorf.<br />

Friends of classic cars in Düsseldorf are enabled now, like in Berlin, to use the services round this<br />

technical hobby.<br />

<strong>HK</strong>-ENGINEERING has already a branch in Berlin. It had two reasons to enter into the <strong>partner</strong>ship<br />

with the Meilenwerk Düsseldorf. It does represent an unique area and surroundings <strong>for</strong> the<br />

accommodation of classic cars. It is an ideal location to show and to demonstrate the achievements<br />

of <strong>HK</strong>-ENGINEERING to its customers within Northern Germany and Benelux countries. <strong>HK</strong>-<br />

ENGINEERING focuses its operations in Düsseldorf mainly to the 300 SL. Beside these, within the<br />

showroom and sales area other classic models are available too. Those who want to buy or to sell a<br />

classic car will receive our known reliable and reputable services within an beautiful and unique<br />

ambience.<br />

FRAUD, SCAM AND RIP-OFF ARTISTS<br />

The more expensive our cars are getting nowadays, the more crooks are romping around.<br />

More and more often 300 SL are offered by crooks to a prospective buyer to trick a down-payment<br />

out of him/her.<br />

Those offers originate mostly from Asia like China, Malaysia, Indonesia and recently also from Australia<br />

and Argentina.<br />

These scammers use and work with photographs sucked from the web net and <strong>for</strong>ged documents.<br />

Be aware of cars offered in Europe too! Here too, occasionally some cars with fake chassis numbers,<br />

changed or <strong>for</strong>ged engine Numbers are in circulation.<br />

Original identification plate is a good indicator if fixed in place with original screws or rivets. Due to<br />

a natural aging process these ID plates are easy to distinguish from new ones.<br />

Should the object have a new ID plates better have a closer look to it !<br />

During the last decades it became common after the restoration work to change the old ID plates<br />

against new ones. In this case the new punched-in ID Nos. must be compared with all the other ID<br />

numbers still remaining on the car.<br />

Following location carry the ID numbers:<br />

Chassis<br />

Brow of the car (lid)<br />

Engine number<br />

Floor area on the passenger side<br />

Colour code on the brow of the car.<br />

Beside these, ID Nos. are punched-in on following units as the axis, gear box, steering box. Usually<br />

the last three or four digits are very close to the ID No.<br />

Should somebody be in need <strong>for</strong> more details about the own car or an car on offer <strong>for</strong> purchase, please<br />

don´t hesitate to contact us.<br />

We keep an archive which contains a registry of more than 80% of all 300 SL<br />

built. We there<strong>for</strong>e are almost in any case able to submit the in<strong>for</strong>mation when needed.<br />

Up to date we were able to identify all submitted fake offers as such.<br />

At the archive of Daimler Benz they keep the delivery sheets of all 300 SL and their individual Nos.<br />

are deposited there.<br />

In<strong>for</strong>mation is given only against presentation of the car title and ownership evidence.<br />

Fraud offer example<br />

This summer on July 29th 2008 <strong>HK</strong>-ENGINEERING got a phone call from a certain Dr. S. The matter<br />

was about a 300 SL purchase from Indonesia.<br />

He sent us the following ID No. 198 040 55 00 361 of the chassis.<br />

Allegedly an expert there has inspected the car and rated it being an original.<br />

Prior to it a down-payment was installed. A few days later we´ve got another call from a Mr. D. He<br />

in<strong>for</strong>med us that he was offered a 300 SL on August 7th 2008 from Russia.<br />

The ID No. of the car was the same as above, 198 040 55 00 361. Further it was said that the car originates<br />

from a <strong>for</strong>mer private German car collection. Photographs received at <strong>HK</strong>-ENGINEERING<br />

were identical with those from Dr. S.<br />

In August 2008 <strong>HK</strong>-ENGINEERING received an e-mail. The sender was<br />

Mr. W. from Gibraltar. His in<strong>for</strong>mation was that he made a purchase of a 300 SL in Indonesia on<br />

March 29th 2008 The ID No. of the car was 55 00 361. According to the seller this car was previously<br />

restored at <strong>HK</strong>-ENGINEERING .He (the buyer) would like to have a certificate about the restoration<br />

of the car.<br />

And, by the way, the car is still registered in Indonesia until August 2009<br />

Further 300 SL deals are in the “pipeline”, he said.<br />

Three different offers <strong>for</strong> the same and only car !<br />

The truth in this case was easily established. The original car, proven by its punched-in Numbers,<br />

stays nicely and shiny in our show room in Polling, Bavaria.<br />

It is also not <strong>for</strong> sale in reality.<br />

BABY BORN TO HANS KLEISSL AND VANESSA FAST<br />

On july 11th at 17.13 pm, our sweet daughter Violet Summer Fleur was born.<br />

At her birthday she weighed 2820g and was 51 cm. She is healthy and happy and we are very proud<br />

of her. She already came with us to take part at two rallyes - the <strong>MB</strong> Classic Days in England and the<br />

<strong>MB</strong> <strong>300SL</strong> Club autumn rallye in Vienna.<br />
