A BIG ‘THANK YOU’ to all who helped with the
Christmas clean at the Cathedral last week and to all
who, week by week, clean Holy Rosary Church.
THIS WEEKEND, there will be a retiring collection
for Christmas flowers at the Cathedral and Holy
Rosary.
THE RETIRING COLLECTION for the St Vincent de
Paul Society raised £443. Thank you.

THE WINNING NUMBER FOR THE TEDDY BEAR
RAFFLE is 375 on a fawn-coloured ticket (serial
number A383PH4T). The prize may be claimed
from the Cathedral sacristy on production of the
winning ticket. Thanks to all concerned. The
raffle raised £170.02, which together with the
£511.86 taken at the Carol Service, have been
added to the Choir Endowment Fund, the income
from which helps to support singing in the
Cathedral.
POSITIVE ACTION FOR REFUGEES & ASYLUM
SEEKERS (Holy Rosary) needs tinned & dry food.
Also chocolate bars, long-life milk, fruit juices,
biscuits, nuts, dried fruit; toiletries. Cash gifts
may be placed in the box on the paper counter.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION 2013 If your
child is in year 3 or above at school, and you attend
Mass at the Cathedral, and he/she is ready to join
the preparation class, then please ask for an
application form in the sacristy after Mass. Those
who are being prepared in our Primary School, will
be formally presented at the 10.30am Mass today.
THIS YEAR’S CRIB OFFERINGS
will be for Catholic Care
A KNITTING GROUP will meet in the Holy Rosary
Community Room from 11.30 am - 1.30 pm on
Saturday 5th January. No experience necessary,
beginners welcome. Bring along any existing projects
you may have. Alternatively, patterns, wool and
knitting needles will be available if necessary, for a
small donation.
THE SVP meets next on Tuesday, 8th January 2013 at 7.00pm in Wheeler
Hall. New members always welcome.

PREPARATION FOR BAPTISM FOR CHILDREN OF
CATECHETICAL AGE for children of catechetical age
(7 years and above). A course of preparation will run
on Saturday mornings from 10.30am, beginning on
12th January 2013 at the Holy Rosary. For more
information please speak to one of the clergy.
STARTING in January 2013, a two-session Baptism
preparation course will take place at various intervals
throughout the year for those families who wish to
have their child baptised in the Parish. The purpose of
the course is to catechise the parents and so better
prepare them for the responsibilities they undertake in
having a child baptised. For details of the course and
application forms, please ask in the sacristy.
THERE’LL BE A PARTY in Cathedral House for all
who help with the life, work and worship of the
parish, on Sunday 6th January after the evening Mass,
around 7.00pm. Please collect a form from the sacristy
and return the lower portion, as soon as possible, so
that we can gauge numbers.
CATHEDRAL LECTURES 2012 The next
lecture is on Wednesday, 9th January 2013 in
Wheeler Hall at 7.00pm. The Speaker is Donal
Foley and the title of his talk is “Marian
apparitions through history and their
Significance for Today”. All welcome.
THE JOURNEY INTO FAITH PROGRAMME

RETREAT TO PREPARE FOR THE ERITREAN
CELEBRATION OF CHRISTMAS on Saturday 29th December from 10.00am – 4.00pm at Holy
Rosary.
THE CATHEDRAL ORGAN APPEAL has now

THE ROSES & WINE RAFFLE at Holy Rosary raised
£131 to purchase a new crucifix for the primary school.
Winning numbers (prizes 1 – 10): 487, 14, 441, 391,
412, 364, 292, 700, 50 & 270. Prizes may be
collected after 10.30am Mass today. Many thanks to
those who organised and supported this.
LEEDS PEOPLE FOR LIFE meet on the first Saturday of
each month at the Cenotaph, The Headrow, from
10.30am-11.45am, to pray the rosary and give Christian

for each class room and the hall. It would deepen

EVERY FRIDAY is set aside as a special day of penitence.
The Bishops of England & Wales have decided to reestablish
the practice that this penance should be
fulfilled simply by abstaining from meat and by uniting
this to prayer. Those who cannot or choose not to eat
meat as part of their normal diet should abstain from
some other food of which they regularly partake.

altar server, reader, or Extraordinary Minister of
the Eucharist, and would be prepared to exercise
your ministry here, please speak to one of the
priests, deacons or sisters.

our prayer and a way of extending it when we can no
longer be there. But, please place lighted candles only
in the sockets provided. If there isn’t room, leave your
unlit votive candle on the tray beneath the lighted
candles. It will be lit for you when there is space.
