Fuel for recovery<br />
This Leaflet aims to provide you with a few ideas on how<br />
to get the best from your nutritional drinks or sip feeds.<br />
<strong>Fresenius</strong> <strong>Kabi</strong> have a range of special nutritious drinks for<br />
people who are unwell and cannot manage enough normal<br />
food to meet their requirements.<br />
To help get more nourishment from your everyday meals,<br />
and to add variety, the Fresubin ® and ProvideXtra ® drinks can<br />
be used as part of some simple recipes.<br />
Here are a few to try:<br />
Breakfast<br />
Vanilla porridge<br />
serves 1<br />
• 200ml Fresubin ® energy fibre vanilla<br />
• 50g porridge oats<br />
• 100ml full cream milk<br />
Mix porridge oats with Fresubin ® energy<br />
fibre vanilla and milk in a saucepan.<br />
Gently heat until just before the boiling<br />
and simmer for 5 minutes stirring<br />
occasionally. Add sugar or honey to<br />
taste if desired.<br />

Pancakes<br />
makes 8<br />
• 200ml Fresubin ® energy neutral<br />
• 120g sieved plain flour<br />
• 1 egg - beaten<br />
• 100ml full cream milk<br />
• oil/butter to fry<br />
Beat all ingredients together in a bowl.<br />
Heat oil in a frying pan. Add one ladle of<br />
pancake batter and cook until golden, flip<br />
pancake and cook the other side. Serve<br />
with sugar and lemon juice or Maple syrup.<br />

Soups & snacks<br />
Carrot &<br />
coriander soup<br />
serves 2<br />
• 200ml ProvideXtra ® carrot & apple<br />
• 25g butter<br />
• Half medium onion, finely chopped<br />
• 1 clove garlic, crushed<br />
• 225g carrots, roughly chopped<br />
• 400ml vegetable stock<br />
• A pinch ground nutmeg<br />
• 1 tbsp. chopped fresh coriander<br />
• 100ml single cream<br />
• Salt & pepper to taste<br />
Melt the butter and cook the onion<br />
and garlic gently until soft in a covered<br />
saucepan. Add the roughly chopped<br />
carrots, stock and nutmeg. Cover, bring<br />
to the boil and simmer gently until the<br />
vegetables are tender. Cool a little, then<br />
puree in a liquidiser.<br />
Add ProvideXtra ® ,<br />
cream, coriander<br />
and season to<br />
taste.<br />

Tomato &<br />
vegetable soup<br />
serves 1<br />
• 200ml Fresubin ® energy vegetable cream<br />
• Half can condensed tomato soup<br />
Mix condensed soup with Fresubin ® energy<br />
and warm gently in a saucepan. Season<br />
with salt, pepper and herbs. Add extra<br />
water if a thinner consistency is required.<br />
Variations: Try different flavours of<br />
condensed soup e.g. chicken or mushroom<br />
both works well.<br />

Cheese sauce<br />
• 200ml Fresubin ® energy neutral<br />
• 25g butter • 25g flour • 100ml milk<br />
• 75g grated cheese • Salt & pepper<br />
Melt butter in as saucepan, stir in flour.<br />
Add Fresubin ® energy and milk gradually,<br />
stirring continuously. Cook until mixture<br />
thickens. Add cheese and seasoning and<br />
continue to cook until cheese has melted.<br />
This sauce can be used to cover cauliflower<br />

Beat together the eggs, Fresubin ® energy neutral and seasonings. Melt the fat in a saucepan. Add the<br />

Main meals & puddings<br />
Meatloaf with<br />
tomato sauce<br />
serves 6<br />
Meatloaf<br />
• 450g minced beef • 75g plain flour<br />
• 1 small onion • 200ml Fresubin ®<br />
energy neutral<br />
Mix flour and beef. Add in eggs and then<br />
mix until smooth. Add in Fresubin ® energy<br />
a little at a time. Add in the finely grated<br />
onion. Put the mixture into a meatloaf tin<br />
and cook for 45 mins at 190°/Gas mark 5.<br />
Tomato sauce<br />
• 15ml olive oil • Half tbsp. dry basil<br />
• 1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce<br />
• Half onion<br />
• 1 400g tin chopped tomatoes<br />
• 1 tbsp. tomato purée<br />
• 1 carton ProvideXtra ® tomato<br />
Mix all ingredients except ProvideXtra ®<br />
and simmer for 10 minutes.<br />
Remove from heat and stir in ProvideXtra ® .<br />
Pour over meatloaf and serve.<br />
Variations: the tomato sauce can also be<br />
used with pasta.<br />

Peach ice<br />
• 200ml Fresubin ® original peach<br />
• 2 tbsps. vanilla ice cream<br />
Place ingredients in a blender. Blend for<br />
15-20 seconds and serve immediately.<br />

Lamb in<br />
blackcurrant sauce<br />
serves 2<br />
• 1 x 15ml (1 tbsp.) vegetable oil<br />
• 200g (8oz) lamb, diced<br />
• 1 x 5ml (1 tbsp.) chopped fresh rosemary<br />
• Half medium onion, peeled, chopped<br />
• 200ml ProvideXtra ® blackcurrant<br />
• Salt & pepper<br />
Heat oil in frying pan, add lamb and<br />
onion, fry until brown. Place in ovenproof<br />
dish, pour over ProvideXtra ® , and sprinkle<br />
with rosemary and season to taste. Cook<br />
in Pre-heated oven (180°C/350°F/Gas<br />
mark 4) for 30-35 minutes until tender.<br />
Serve with seasonal vegetables.<br />

Fruits of the<br />
forest sorbet<br />
serves 6<br />
• 450g mixed fruits (raspberries,<br />
blackcurrants, redcurrants,<br />
blackberries, strawberries etc.)<br />
• 200ml ProvideXtra ® blackcurrant<br />
Blend fruits and ProvideXtra ® for 1-2<br />
minutes. Pour into airtight container (with<br />
lid). Freeze for 1 hour, remove lid and mix<br />
well with fork, freeze for further 2-3 hours.<br />

Drinks<br />
Strawberry<br />
mint shake<br />
serves 1<br />
• 200ml Fresubin ® protein energy<br />
wild strawberry<br />
• 100g natural yoghurt 3.5%<br />
• 10g sugar • Fresh mint leaves<br />
Puree the natural yoghurt with the Fresubin ®<br />
protein energy, the sugar and fresh mint<br />
leaves. Leave to chill for about 30 minutes<br />
in the fridge. Serve cold with crushed ice.<br />

Virgin Mary<br />
• 200ml ProvideXtra ® tomato<br />
• Juice of half a lemon<br />
• Splash of Worcestershire sauce<br />

Place all ingredients with some ice in a<br />

Mix hot chocolate powder and boiling water in a mug. Add warmed<br />

Italian cocktail<br />

chocolate<br />
• 100ml espresso (cold) • 10mg sugar<br />
Mix the cold espresso with the Fresubin ®<br />
