To the Reverend Alex Lewanowicz, the Wardens and the People of Faith Anglican Church, Embrun,
Ontario
My dear Friends,
I write to you on the second Sunday of Lent with a prayer that through this holy season as we all are
walking through the pages of the Gospels with Jesus as “ he set his face like a flint” towards
Jerusalem and the Cross that we all find ourselves falling in love with Him more and more who lived
and died and rose again for us.
It would be a great joy for me to deliver these greetings in person but for now I write to you with
prayer that you will be aware of my great gratitude to the Lord for your constant faithful witness,
worship and ministry in the Embrun area.
Over the last couple of years I have been in regular contact with your Rector the Reverend Alex
Lewanowicz. You will know that he has begun over the last year to serve as a chaplain in the
Canadian Armed Forces.
I am now writing to announce to you that Captain Father Alex has discerned with my complete
support that he is now to proceed into full-­‐time way in chaplaincy with the Canadian Armed Forces.
This means he has tendered his resignation as Rector of Faith Anglican Church effective June 30,
2013.
First of all I want to thank Father Alex for his faithful and dedicated service. He has been a bold and
courageous servant of the Lord and it was under his leadership that Faith has come into existence
now five years ago. I know Father Alex is very eager and concerned for the on-­‐going health and well-­‐
being of Faith as you go forward and he and I have tried to discern the correct time for this
announcement and for his completion of his term as Rector.
I also want to say that I do believe this is a genuine call of God for Father Alex to become a full-­‐time
chaplain. I believe it is a very significant and important ministry as is Parish Ministry and he is

uniquely gifted for this work and I believe called to do it. I know that he and his dear wife, Heather
have prayed much about this step.
I am therefore also very confident that the Lord has exactly the right person to take up the baton for
the next phase for the life and ministry of Faith and that will become an important focus of our work
in the next few months.
Archdeacon Tim Parent has been asked by me to lead you as a congregation through a period of
discernment towards a fresh vision of your life in the future and then to go through the process of a
search on my behalf as your bishop so in due course I can appoint a successor to our faithful priest
and friend the Reverend Captain Alex Lewanowicz.
It is always sad to acknowledge and to ponder saying goodbye to a faithful leader but in this case I
know that we will all be praying for and rejoicing with the Alex+ in this new challenge and also will
be confidently trusting in the Lord for the future of Faith and for the future leader that we are
trusting God will provide.
