„Test Management under Crisis”
In the next years, we shall be facing a tremendous change
in testing, as the visibility of what we do to the business
will be a must, reducing costs will be a must, and keeping a
high level of quality to our products will be a must as well.
Test managers will be facing a few major challenges:
• Improving testing processes to the optimum and the
quality maturity of their products
• Manage risks and respond quickly to market needs
(preventive and corrective actions)
• Manage their professional team better – building an
efficient and effective testing team that can handle
the workload with advanced methods, procedures
and tools.
In my tutorial I shall review the current challenges and the
near future challenges of test managers. We shall go over
what is necessary to do in order to improve our processes
starting with identifying the problems and challenges analyzing
them and suggesting a way forward (using an enhanced
root cause analysis method). We shall discuss how
to better manage our testing risks, how to present them to
management, and I shall present 2 excel tools that helped
me organize my priorities and work.
Last but not least, we shall discuss how to build winning
testing teams and what is important in building such a team
from personal and professional perspectives. Improvement
of processes and high level of maturity in risk management
have shown in the past numbers of 15-30% improvement in
cost and/or product coverage for such efforts.
So, if you have 10 people in your team, you can reduce cost
by 0.5-3 people’s effort, investing it back into coverage, automation,
and better confidence in deployment.

“Agile Software Development in the Large”
A lot of people still believe that agile software development is
for small teams only. However, the agile value system and the
principles behind as stated in the agile manifesto don’t say
anything about team or project size. Furthermore the projects
I’m working on are typically large, distributed and mission
critical. Therefore, several years ago I took the challenge
and tried agile software development in the large.
Meanwhile I made the similar experience on many large
projects: Also large and even distributed teams can benefit
from a value system that is beneficial for small teams.
In this tutorial Jutta Eckstein shows how to scale agile
processes to teams of 300. In fact, the same techniques
are also relevant to teams of ten or more developers, especially
within large organizations.
