Transportation
Intermediaries
Association
R
Welcome to Orlando and TIA’s 33rd Annual Convention!
While last year’s economy showed some improvement, we are still not “out of the woods” and formidable
challenges still confront our industry. This year you will see the complete implementation of the CSA
program, a renewed fight over Drivers’ Hours of Service and capacity issues, as the economy continues
to grow.
Our members continue to thrive and the numbers prove this. The TIA 3PL Market Report indicates that TIA
members of all sizes saw total dollars billed increase each quarter in 2010. You saw total shipments increase
throughout the year, and while average profit margins declined throughout the year, they averaged 16
percent. The TIA 3PL Market Report is a powerful new tool for you to use to gauge where you stand in
your industry.
The very fact that you are here confirms your skill, knowledge and ability in avoiding being a victim
of the recession. At its outset, we pledged to boycott the recession. Now that it’s over, let’s commit
overwhelmingly to growth and improvement. During the next three days, we will provide you opportunities
to share with each other, so that in our industry you can achieve the additional success you seek.
• Sharpen your business development plan, so as to acquire new customers while growing your business
by retaining existing ones.
• Stand out from the crowd by becoming TIA Performance Certified with a higher bond.
• Improve your technology.
• Go to the Plenary Sessions for topics that affect every 3PL, including the Shipper’s panel, CSA Carrier
Selection and Legislative issues.
• Attend the education sessions and pick from four tracts: Fundamental, Universal, Expansion and
Advanced. Each one is designed to allow you to attain targeted knowledge to give you a true
competitive advantage.
• Attend the best trade show ever for the 3PL industry.
• Talk to your peers and share ideas.
• Get involved with TIA to protect your business from Washington.
Above all, have fun and know that you are running a successful business in a growing industry, where
opportunities are yours to utilize.
Sincerely,
Transactional to Contractual:
Sales Leadership Strategies for Major Account Selling
Location: Timor Sea 1
3PL’s are constantly challenged with the task of converting
transactional business to contractual business. As shippers
continue to employ more sophisticated buying strategies, 3PL’s
need to enhance their major account sales teams. The past six
TIA pre-convention seminars have focused exclusively on inside
sales and sales management. This seminar is all about major
account selling. The face-to-face sales call. How does face-toface
selling differ from phone sales? Outside sales calls are
expensive, how can you insure that you are maximizing each
call? What behaviors, questions, techniques, and tools can you
employ to increase the success of these rare, but highly critical,
sales calls? This interactive seminar is all about enhancing your
face-to-face major account sales efforts!
