RECORDS
For the statisticians among us 8 October 2005 was a historic day on which four centuries were
scored against University of Queensland. This was our best performance against University and
was the best result since five centuries were scored against Toombul on 30 October 1993.
In first grade, Ryan Broad scored 241 (17 x 4, 14 x 6) and Chris Hughes 107* in a third wicket
partnership of 300 (Broad 198, Hughes 98) at W.E.P.Harris.
Craig Thomas scored 197* (36 x 4, 1 x 6) and Charlie Mylne hit 105 in a 168 third wicket
partnership in fourth grade at Boundary St 2.
Broad’s score is the highest first grade score passing Greg Ritchie’s 210* in 1982 and is the third
highest Club score behind Greg William’s 281* in 1985 and Michael Cant’s 250 in 2002. Hughes
scored his maiden first grade century in only his second game.
The partnership was the highest in any grade passing the 289 scored in December 1983 by Ian
Moore and Mark Gaskell.
The innings of 4/404 was the highest First Grade innings scored against University.
After opening the innings Thomas was 27 overnight and remained unbeaten on 197 at 7/391 at
stumps. This was the second consecutive fourth grade match in which 300 had been attained
after a 43 match drought. Mylne had a memorable match scoring a rare double by taking 6/57 the
previous Saturday.
David Humphries achieved a personal milestone of 411 wickets and took a 13/46 match return
against Sandgate Redcliffe which is second only to Bill Albury’s 14/40 in 1961.
Ryan Broad became the twenty first Club player to gain Queensland selection on 18 November
2005 playing Victoria at the Gabba. He played three matches in his first season. He joins an
unique group of eight where father and sons have played for Queensland.
Under 18’s won the premiership against Gold Coast at Boundary Street - winning outright by 73
runs after trailing by 22 on first innings. It is the fifth win in 45 seasons and 17 seasons since the
last win in 1988-89. With eight wins, a washed out draw and two losses they finished on top of the
table. Drawn to meet University in the semi final this match was washed out and they advanced
straight to the final.
The under 19’s won the one day final beating Norths at Ian Healy in reversing the result of the
previous season after this competition had been suspended for seven seasons. Sean Harris
