• All staff workers involved in an incident of physical<br />
intervention must have successfully completed the<br />
agency-endorsed crisis management training. Such<br />
training should be fully implemented in the agency,<br />
and upon completion of training, staff workers<br />
should have been assessed as competent in the use<br />
of physical interventions. Staff workers must also<br />
have successfully completed a skills review within<br />
the previous 6 months.<br />
• Only physical intervention skills and decisionmaking<br />
processes that are taught in the<br />
comprehensive crisis management course and<br />
approved by the agency (and any relevant statutory<br />
authority) may be used. All techniques (including<br />
decision-making processes) must be applied<br />
according to the guidelines provided in the training<br />
and in this policy.<br />
Process for Use<br />
• Where possible, staff members must consult with<br />
peers and supervisors prior to initiating any<br />
physical intervention.<br />
• Two or more staff members should be involved in<br />
any physical intervention to help ensure safety and<br />
accountability.<br />
