Content Summary from Paris

eZ Conference & Awards 2009 was held in Paris from 25
to 26 of June. Over 250 people from all over the world
celebrated the 10th anniversary of eZ Systems, and
enjoyed the two day conference on Thursday and Friday.
Well over 30 speakers provided a highly professional
package of sessions reaching from the developer and
community track, web content management track, to
the digital media track.
There were 6 sponsors of eZ Conference & Awards
2009 where Audaxis and YMC were the main sponsors.
Track sponsors were Prosodie, Alter Way and Redpill
Linpro and Interoute was sponsoring the partner day on
Wednesday June 24th.The conference was held at
Eurosites George V venue witch was situated at the
center of the golden triangle in Paris right next to
Champs-Élysées. The staff worked hard to get the 3 day
event conducted smoothly and they responded very well
to what is expected of a professional event venue.
eZ Awards on Thursday evening was attended by more
than 300 people who could enjoy a band and our host
for some years now, Marvin Charles. The 10 category
list of awards were handed out to the ones that have
contributed to Open Source and the eZ Ecosystem in
an exceptional way. The 90 minutes show also included
several songs like “Roxie” from the musical Chicago
as a way to celebrate the success of the US operations
started in the windy city during 2008. The evening ended
with an after party at Le Queenie (kindly sponsored
by NXC, once more Partner of the Year 2009), where all
attendees met to have a few drinks and celebrate into
the night.
Once again, eZ thanks everyone involved in eZ
Conference & Awards 2009, and is already looking
forward to next year’s edition.

2009 eZ Awards winners
On the evening of Thursday 25th of June at eZ Conference 2009, special recognition
was given to key people within the eZ Ecosystem and the Open Source community.
With a full seated auditorium at Eurosites George V, the very special statuette was
handed out to the winners of 10 categories.
Award 1: Blogger of the year
The prize for Blogger of the Year is given to individuals
we feel in particular have been blogging effectively to
promote eZ. Important criterias are:
- The amount of posts about eZ
- The frequency of writing
- The quality and accuracy of the posts
Nominees: Gilles Guirand from Kaliop (FR), Damien
Pobel from Smile (FR), Piotr Karas from Mediaself (PL),
Bruce Morrison, independant consultant
Winner: Damien Pobel from Smile (handed out to
Lucas Challamel on his behalf)
Award 2: Publication of the year
The Publication of the Year award is given to a person
who has written good content about eZ technology. It
can be articles, case studies, documentation or books.
The feedback about that content has been an important
criteria as well as :
- Generated traffic in case web publications
- Provided accessibility for people who don’t know about
the topic
- Number of links to an article from an external site
- Quality of content and impact of the publication for the
community

- Ability to create interest around their activity
- Number of people helped in the community

New investors to eZ Systems
Hasso Plattner Ventures invests in the Norwegian enterprise content
management company eZ – financing round opens path for global
growth.
Hasso Plattner Ventures invests in the
Norwegian enterprise content man-
agement software company eZ Systems.
The existing Norwegian investors BTV Fond,
a Norwegian venture capital investment found (www.btv-invest.no), Rolf Knutsen AS, and
Dynam also participated in the financing round. eZ Systems is in the expansion stage, active
mainly in Europe and growing internationally with success both in USA and Japan. eZ’s main
product, eZ Publish focuses on the vertical media segment and enables its users to manage
their digital content and use them in web publishing, media portals, intranets, e-commerce
and extranets. It runs on multiple platforms and is adaptable to all enterprise infrastructures.
Large Media groups like Lagardere Active, Prisma Presse, Schibstedt, and Swiss Broadcasting
Corporation use eZ Publish for publications like Elle, National Geographic, DinMat and Swiss

New installer released: eZ Publish is only a few
clicks away!
eZ Systems releases the first version of its new eZ Publish installer.
This new tool aims at giving a simple and
nice way for users, developers, managers
to install an eZ Publish stack on their
computer. This package includes a Mysql
database, an Apache web server instance
with PHP and of course eZ Publish 4.1.3.

eZ Publish based enterprise content management
for associations
Audaxis - a major sponsor of eZ Conference and Awards 2009 provides

Associations have most of the time a huge volume

eZ Publish CMS provides a powerful platform for information publishing on all services expected
by members : information portal including activities description, news, agenda, discussion
groups, networking…
Compiere provides a complete solution to monitor master data such as members contact,
status… and process services such as member fee payment, events registration...
Both systems are integrated through RESTFull interfaces.
For instance, when a member logs on the web site to review his profile, the profile information
is taken out of Compiere. If the user makes some changes, those changes are sent back to
Compiere as a request giving the possibility to implement a validation work flow on the backend.
If the member is paying his renewal fee online, the payment record is recorded within
Compiere and the membership status is immediately updated.
