Bob is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers<br />
and Chartered Member of IOSH. He is the SHEQ Director for Brookfield<br />
Multiplex Europe and is responsible for gaining efficient and safe performance from<br />
large complex projects. He has spent 13 years as a construction project manager and<br />
three years as a director of a UK National Construction Company. Earlier roles included<br />
the Safety Director for Alfred McAlpine plc, the Project Construction Director for a large<br />
four story shopping mall (completed on time and on budget) and, for three years, an<br />
Executive Director of a UK National Construction Company.<br />
dr. Kashif afzal, BP, Health Manager, UAE<br />
Dr. Afzal is a medical graduate with specialization in Occupational<br />
Medicine and has held various clinical, administrative, and executive<br />
leadership roles. His experience spans across many countries including<br />
working in such places as the South Asia, Middle East, Europe, Central<br />
Asia and former Soviet Union states. His current profile as a health Manager for BP based<br />
in UAE and looks after BP‘s interest in Middle East (UAE, Oman, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar and<br />
Saudi Arabia). He is currently responsible for provision of Specialist health management<br />
through a specialized team of Occupational Medicine Physician, Industrial Hygienist,<br />
Occupational Health Advisors and other allied Occupational Health professionals. Dr.<br />
Afzal graduated from Dow University of Health Sciences Pakistan followed by specialist<br />
training in Occupational Medicine from University of Birmingham, UK. Has completed<br />
Masters in Environment Health Sciences and is a Member of Faculty of Occupational<br />
Medicine, Royal College of Physician of Ireland.<br />

Mr. Khalid Al Mqeemi holds an M.Sc. degree in Process Safety and Loss<br />
Prevention from Sheffield University. For the past 18 years he has worked<br />
extensively in Environmental Health and Safety, Risk Management,<br />
Business Continuity and Crisis Management in both private and public sectors. Khalid<br />
has been Management Advisor for a wide range of diversified industries and has indepth<br />
knowledge of the Oil & Gas, transportation, and construction industries including<br />
current and emerging national policies, regulatory arrangements and drivers for<br />
improvement. Khalid is currently EHS Division Director in the Department of Transport,<br />
where he provides strategic advice and EHS Program Management support to the<br />
Surface Transport, Maritime and Aviation Sectors for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. In this<br />
role, Khalid is also security liaison to the National Crisis and Emergency Management<br />
Authority and its stakeholders. Prior to this, Khalid worked for Abu Dhabi National Oil<br />
Company, Shell Oil and Dubai Holding. This experience includes Mega projects such as<br />

Eur. Ing. Saleem graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical<br />
Engineering from the University of Glasgow, Scotland 1985 and<br />

University, England in 1987. Professionally he is a Chartered Engineer, Fellow of the<br />
Royal Aeronautical Society, Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Fellow of<br />
the Safety and Reliability Society and Fellow of the British Interplanetary Society. Eur. Ing.<br />
Saleem has accumulated over 25 years of international experience in Risk Management,<br />
Crisis Management, Project Management and System Safety having worked in the<br />
United Kingdom, Hong Kong, The Netherlands, Austria and Taiwan. Previous Employers<br />
and Major Clients have included Singapore Land Transport Authority, Taiwan High<br />
Speed Rail Corporation, British Aerospace, Kowloon Canton Railway Corporation,<br />
Parsons Brinckerhoff, SIEMENS, European Space Agency, Austrian Aerospace Company,<br />

Darren has an MSc (Med) in Public Health from the University of Cape<br />
Town, South Africa, as well as qualifications in Environmental Health,<br />
Public Health and Occupational Health and Safety. He is currently the<br />
senior advisor: Occupational Health for the Health Authority Abu Dhabi and has worked<br />
on the development of the HAAD Safety in Heat programme as well as strengthening<br />
occupational health policy, services and outcomes in occupational health in the Emirate<br />
of Abu Dhabi. Darren has previously worked as a university lecturer in Australia and<br />
an occupational hygiene consultant in South Africa. Darren is a certified occupational<br />
hygienist with the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists as well as the South<br />
African Institute for Occupational Hygiene.<br />

Paul has always strived to live the healthy lifestyle and he is incredibly<br />
committed and passionate about being physically active and living life<br />
to the full. Currently in the final year of a Masters Degree in Health<br />
Improvement and Health Promotion at the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen,<br />
United Kingdom. Paul joined the Saudi Aramco Workplace Wellness Team as a Preventive<br />
Medicine Advisor in April 2008 and helping our workforce to ‘Be Well” is a role and<br />
challenge that he really enjoys.<br />

Dr. Mahmoud Ghanaim, graduated from Kuwait University – Kuwait<br />
where he did his initial post graduate training and then he moved to<br />
UAE and joined the cardiology department and the intensive care unit<br />
and was involved in acute care . He completed his post graduate from UK. In 2010<br />
Dr.Ghanaim was appointed as the head of emergency department in Dubai Hospital –<br />
Dubai Health Authority. His main interest is acute cardiac acre and disaster management.<br />

Troy Nugent is a Senior HS&E Director in the Middle East Region for<br />
Baker Hughes, an oilfield Services Company based in Houston, Texas<br />
with operations in more than 90 countries. Troy has held positions of<br />
increasing responsibility with the company over the past 11 years. Before joining Baker<br />
Hughes, Troy spent 27 years in supervision and management of HSE&S and Operations<br />
(upstream and downstream) across United States and internationally. Troy previously<br />
represented Baker Hughes on the United States Centre for Offshore (COS) Taskforce<br />
and the Offshore Operators Committee. He led the COS committee that developed the<br />
Safety and Environmental Management System (SEMS) Compliance Readiness Guidance<br />
document and also participated in the development of SEMS audit checklist in cooperation<br />
with the U.S. Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement administration. Troy<br />
also served on the COS committees that developed the certification protocol for thirdparty<br />
auditors and audit service providers for the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf. Troy is a<br />
member of the American Society of Safety Engineers.<br />

dr. mark newson smith, enOC, Chief Medical Officer<br />
Dr. Newson-Smith trained at the Welsh National School of Medicine,<br />
Cardiff winning a prize and scholarship award for projects on<br />
respiratory hazards to coal miners. He spent 11 years in the Royal Navy<br />
as an Occupational Physician working in ships and submarines and<br />
dockyards gaining a wide range of experience in occupational medicine finishing his time<br />
in the Navy as Senior Medical Officer (Submarines) at the Institute of Naval Medicine.<br />
He then worked in the private sector in the United Kingdom providing occupational<br />
health advice to government agencies such as the Environment Agency, the Ministry<br />
of Agriculture Fisheries and Food and the National Health Service Pensions Agency<br />
along with a range of private companies such as banks, manufacturing and transport<br />
companies and a zoo. He joined the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UAE<br />
University, Al-Ain in 2001 working on teaching and research for over two years before<br />
joining ADMA-OPCO, an offshore oil and gas company in Abu Dhabi for a further two<br />
years as Senior Medical Officer (Occupational Health), He is currently the Chief Medical<br />
Officer for ENOC responsible for running their range of occupational health services.<br />
He is a Fellow of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine London and both the Australian<br />
and American Colleges of Legal Medicine. He has a Masters Degree in Occupational<br />
Health (Birmingham) and one in Legal Medicine (Cardiff). He has published a number<br />
of academic papers and continues to lecture at both undergraduate and postgraduate<br />
levels.<br />

early 1990s, is one of only a few Chartered Psychologists who are<br />
also Chartered Fellows of IOSH and is considered a world authority on the subject of<br />
behavioural safety, safety leadership and organisational culture. Tim was awarded a<br />
“President’s Commendation” in 2008 by the International Institute of Risk and Safety<br />
Management and was selected to be their first ever ‘Specialist Fellow’ in 2010. As MD<br />
of the consultancy Ryder Marsh he has worked with more than 400 major organisations<br />
around the world, including the European Space Agency. Many of these clients have<br />
won both open and in-house awards for their subsequent success. He has presented<br />
to the European <strong>Conference</strong> Board and was an expert witness at the “Safety Culture”<br />
and “Management of Change” expert forums at the Cullen Inquiry (Ladbroke Grove).<br />
He runs the “Behavioural Safety” and “Pro-Active Safety Culture” courses for IOSH and<br />
created the award winning “Affective Safety Management” concept for the IIRSM. The<br />
book of the same name is now Europe’s best ever selling safety book. He has chaired<br />
more than a two dozen conferences on Behavioural Safety in the UK and has given key<br />
note speeches at major conferences in places such as Dubai, South Africa, Malaysia and<br />
India. As well as writing dozens of learned articles for such as the ‘Safety and Health<br />
Practitioner’ and the ‘Health and Safety at Work’ magazines he has worked with media<br />
such as the BBC (radio work and selecting and fronting a box set of their disaster series)<br />
and written and produces many safety training videos such as “Drive Smarter” and the<br />
extensive “Safety Leadership” series with Baker-media as well as such as “There’s Always<br />
a Reason” and “Safety Watch”.<br />

has driven him to work in numerous industries across Australia and<br />
throughout the world. Prior to working at Sentis, Anthony worked as a<br />
Psychologist treating addiction and chronic mental health conditions. It was this initial<br />
cognitive-behavioural insight that fuelled his desire to undertake work and employ<br />
practices that can improve the life and safety of people in a proactive fashion. As the<br />
Operations Manager of Sentis, Anthony is passionate about safe production and is proud<br />
to be leading a multi-disciplinary group of people who assist organisations in creating<br />

Presently Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Advisor for Emirates<br />
National Oil Company, with the primary function of assisting the ENOC<br />
Group EHSQ Compliance Manager on matters relating to strategic,<br />
functional and operational EHS development of systems, manpower,<br />
national development and policies/guidelines. Prior to his appointment as EHS Advisor<br />
for ENOC, he was the Health, Safety and Environment Manager of Petron Corporation,<br />
the largest oil company in the Philippines. Charged with advising management on<br />
matters involving the organization and effective implementation of corporate health,<br />
safety, environmental protection, fire prevention/protection programs with the aim of<br />
continuously improving the company’s HSE performance. Holds degree of Management<br />
and Industrial Engineering from Mapua Institute of Technology. Total of more than 26<br />
years experience in health, safety, environmental protection and emergency response.<br />
