and setting louder, and soon it sounded like ten thousand wailing<br />

,)ptimisric one, has proved quire a hard job. This is bccause rhe housc<br />

has had a bad year and we have lost most <strong>of</strong> our cups. However,<br />

this should be remedied in rhis next year.<br />

\Ve lost rhe Cricket Cup to Thomas Housc this year after having<br />

held it for several seasons. <strong>The</strong> marein <strong>of</strong> our dcfeai was onlv threi<br />

runs.<br />

In <strong>the</strong> Rugby Cup we were challenged for thc first time in two<br />

years. . We started well by beating Grays Glays Flouse by twenry-nine twenty-nine points<br />

to nil. In <strong>the</strong> final we played a weakened side against rst Thomas House<br />

XV (also under-strength). After a close and exciting game we lost by<br />

for <strong>the</strong>ir.play in both games. J. R. Bergman was presenrad wirh his<br />

colouls Ims season.<br />

We came third in <strong>the</strong> Athletics Cup this year, bur did bcttcr in<br />

<strong>the</strong> Standards Cup, in which we came second. Guthrie's high jump<br />

performance <strong>of</strong> five feet is especially worthy <strong>of</strong> note. Also to bi<br />

congratulated is <strong>the</strong> senior relay team (S. Incc, R. M. Sncddon, C. W.<br />

Pratley, E. Bartle, D. A. C. Borrett) who won thc Scnior Relay<br />

Cup, R. M. Sneddon and D. A. C. Borrcrr werc prcscntcd wirir<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir athletic colours this season.<br />

Although we came last in <strong>the</strong> Music Cup, C. I. Candy, M. C.<br />

Smedley and A. Burnham must not go unmcntioncd for <strong>the</strong>ir line<br />

efforts.<br />

Ve lost <strong>the</strong> Swimming Cup to Gray's Housc by a very narrow<br />

margin this year. \Ji/e congratulate R. Stewart for coming second in<br />

<strong>the</strong> Senior Cup.<br />

<strong>The</strong> cross-country was run under a new system this year and <strong>the</strong><br />

house came through well, We were second to Thomas. Following is<br />

a list, by age groups, <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> House performanccs. Vc congratulate<br />
