Valerie B. Parker Exhibition
The City of South Perth’s Heritage House Cultural Centre will showcase an exhibition of past
and present paintings by Valerie B. Parker in watercolour and oils from 3 May to 1 June 2008.
Valerie originally took up painting to occupy her time while her husband was at work and her
daughter at school, and was fortunate enough to meet well known watercolour artist Howard
Totenhofer. Valerie studied watercolour and oils with Totenhofer for three years in the early
1970s before completing a course at the Perth Technical College.
Valerie has won many prizes for her art work, has had eight one woman exhibitions and also
founded the Watercolour Society of Western Australia in 1980, acting as its first President for
seven years and secretary for 22 years.
Mayor James Best said the showcase was the latest in series of diverse exhibitions to be
presented by the City.
“Heritage House has been host to exhibitions of Japanese pottery, the works of May and Herbert
Gibbs, and paintings by distinguished local artist Peter Kendall in recent months,” he said.
“The City’s Library and Heritage Services Department works hard to ensure that works of a high
calibre are presented in this venue for the enjoyment of South Perth residents and the wider
community.
“I would encourage people to visit the exhibition and take in the paintings of local South Perth
artist Valerie B. Parker, who captures the Swan River beautifully in her watercolours and still
life in oils.”
Artwork in the exhibition will be for sale.
Heritage House is located on the corner of Mill Point Road and Mends Street in South Perth
and is open Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 4pm, and Saturdays and Sundays from 1pm - 4pm.
