Beaverlodge is a Town where BIG news spreads fast and
so do the questions surrounding our new pool.
We Heard You And Here Are The Top Q&A’s!
1. How much is the pool going to cost?
In total, the project will cost $11.5M. This will include
the pool, hot tub, fitness centre including walking track
and upstairs meetings rooms. As well, the community
centre will be tied into the new complex by opening up
the east end of the building and removing the two
storage rooms.
Community Centre
2. How are we paying for this?
This project is made possible through the cooperation
of the Town and the County of Grande Prairie. The
County is contributing $5M to the project. The town is
paying the remaining amount including approximately
$1.3M in grants and $1M through donations, corporate
sponsorships and fundraising.
3. Is any of this accessible to people with
disabilities?
The whole complex will be accessible to people with
disabilities. Change rooms will include wheelchair
accessible showers and change tables. The leisure pool
is designed with a zero entrance where the pool slopes
gently down from the deck with no stairs or lips. The
lane pool and hot tub will be accessible through a lift.
The fitness centre and basement can be accessed from
the elevator and the fitness centre will include
handicap accessible fitness equipment.
2 .
4. Will property taxes go up to pay for the
pool?
Each year Council and staff carefully consider needs of
the community in order to provide for a balanced and
sustainable community including providing for safe
roads, water treatment, recreation, and economic
development. Taxes may fluctuate at any time
depending on a number of things. These include
increased assessment through growth and new
development, availability of grants and transfer funding
from provincial and federal governments, as well as
what other projects or work is considered necessary at
any given time. Changes in taxes are attributed to
many factors, not just one project.
Conceptual drawing of the pool. Hot Tub (not shown) will be located
in the corner next to the splash pool.
5. Will it have a hot tub? Diving Board?
The pool complex will include a lane pool with diving
board, a leisure pool and a hot tub.
The lane pool will have five lanes, with a shallow end of
1.1. meters and a deep end of 3.6 meters. The lane
pool has been designed to meet the provincial
standards for race meets.
The leisure pool includes a “lazy river”, an area of
current for floating down. The Lazy River is also good
for walking against the current for exercise and/or
therapeutic reasons.
6. When will the Fitness Centre Open?
The Fitness Centre will be open with the pool in May,
2012. This is located on the second floor of the new
complex above the dressing room area and overlooking
the pools. The fitness centre will include a variety of
fitness equipment.
7. When will the new pool open?
The opening of the pool is tentatively scheduled for
May, 2012. With a Celebration to commemorate the
grand opening!
Facility Highlight of the Month
Our Featured Facility highlight of the month is
the Hot Tub!
Water has been used throughout history to softly
massage certain areas of the body in order to relax
nerves and relieve aches and pains. The use of water in
the form of a hot tub increases blood flow, relieves stress
and alleviates aches and pains caused by sore muscles.
Water has the ability to relieve stress and rejuvenate a
tired, worn out body back to its original state. In addition,
it also calms the lungs, heart, endocrine system and
stomach. It performs these functions by stimulating
certain parts of the body, mainly the spinal cord. Many
individuals have resorted to using hot tubs in order to
relieve the stress and tension they feel during the day.
The massaging motions offered by hot tubs especially
help relieve headaches, stress and tension. Individuals
with heart problems or lung problems are not advised to
use this type of therapy.
For more information on the benefits of a hot tub check
