From the Principal’s desk……
Mrs Dorothy Taylor has been teaching at Creswick Primary School for nearly 18
years. Her career spans back a lot further than that as she has been teaching for a total
of 30 years. After a break for ‘Family Leave’ during the late 1980s and early 90s she
has taught continuously at CPS since mid-1994. During that time she has fulfilled
many roles including: a two year stint at the Dean Annex, taught grades Prep to Year
4 and also taught the 5/6 students in rotations. No matter what the school activity;
Forestry Fiesta, Open Evenings, School Performances, Camps, Welcome Barbeques,
Carols nights and lots more, Dot would always be there to help out and support.
Mrs Taylor is taking leave from the beginning of Term 2 and with her family is
moving interstate.
On behalf of the entire school community, I would like to congratulate Dot on her
career and thank her for the wonderful contribution she has made to Creswick
Primary School.
Last Day of Term- Friday 30 th March, 2012
School will finish at 1.30pm this Friday and Term 2 will commence on Monday 16 th April.
I’d like to wish everyone an enjoyable holiday break.
New Staff Member
We welcome a new teacher to start in Grade 1/2 at the beginning of Term 2. The teachers name is Stacey Wallace.
Miss Wallace attended planning with the Junior Unit team on Tuesday and has been in the classrooms to
meet the children. Miss Wallace is looking forward to starting at the school and will no doubt be working during
the school holidays to be ready for the start of Term 2.
Crazy Hair Day
This year Crazy Hair Day will again be held to raise awareness of leukaemia and show our support to families
affected by this disease.
The students can come in casual clothes and we are encouraging everyone to wear a wig, colour their hair or
decorate their hair as part of ‘Crazy Hair Day.’ The JSC will hold an assembly at 9.00am in the MPB to showcase
the children’s hair styles and will collect a gold coin donation that will be sent off to the Leukaemia Foundation.
School Cross Country – Monday 26 th March
The weather was perfect and the students all put a great deal of effort into their cross country events. Some of
the highlights included:
The Prep boys starting their race by running around and around the starter. With the help of one of the
school captains as the ‘Hare’ they soon worked out where they had to go.
Molly Davies tripping over at the start of the race and after taking some time to recover she took off after
the others who were all hundreds of metres in front. She did a great job and came in 4 th .
The closely fought contests in both the boys and girls races for the 12 year and over event
The children ran distances from 600 metres for preps through to about 2200 metres for the 11 & 12 year olds.
The students who gained a place in the 10 years and under, 11 years and 12 and over race will have the opportunity
to travel to Clunes on the 4 th of May to participate in the District Cross Country.
Earth Hour 2012
Saturday March 31st, 2012 from 8.30 pm with
your family.
Earth Hour started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia when 2.2 million
individuals and more than 2,000 businesses turned their lights off
for one hour to take a stand against climate change. Only a year
later and Earth Hour had become a global sustainability movement
with more than 50 million people across 35 countries/
territories participating.
This Earth Hour we want you to go beyond the hour, so after the
lights go back on think about what else you can do to make a difference.
Together our actions add up.
Earth Hour has done a lot to raise awareness of sustainability
issues. But there’s more to it than switching off lights for one hour
once a year. It’s all about giving people a voice and working together
to create a better future for our planet.
Check the website for more information on activities for children
and how to live a sustainable life.
http://www.earthhour.org/Homepage.aspx
REMINDER that all visitors and helpers at the school are required to sign in and collect a badge at
the office. Everyone requires a Working With Children Check to be allowed to assist within the
school environment.

Active After School
During Term One the school has hosted Athletics Coaching
and Frisbee as the two Active After School sports. Thank
you to the two co-ordinators, Deb Joynson for Frisbee and
Jennie Boyd for Athletics. The co-ordinators help out during
lessons, monitor all students, purchase and prepare the
fruit and snacks each night, make sure all students are accounted
for and lock up after the activity.
Great job Jennie and Deb!
The sports for Term 2 have not been determined as yet. It
could be expected that the next Active After School program
will start in Week Four of next term.
Ride2School
The weather may have been cold and bitter but that didn’t
deter a large number of students participating in the
Ride2School day last Friday. Thank you to the parents who
assisted with the scooting, riding and walking to school.
