Developed computational methods for the numerical solution of the Navier-Stokes equations on<br />

structured and unstructured grids, for single- and two-phase flows, on parallel computers, including<br />

GPUs. Developed methods based on evolutionary algorithms, soft computing techniques and adjoint<br />

methods for the design-optimisation of aerodynamic shapes (airfoils, wings, turbomachinery blades),<br />

power plants, etc. Successfully accomplished research work pertaining to CFD and optimization for a<br />

number of projects funded by the European Community, Greek Organisations and European Industries.<br />

• 1987-1988 : HELLENIC AIRFORCE-RESEARCH TECHNOLOGY CENTER (KETA), Athens<br />

(Research Engineer-Military Service).<br />

Developed software related to store separation trajectories for Northrop F-5A Fighter A/C. Worked on<br />

an experimental set-up for in-flight testing.<br />

RECHERCHES, Paris, (Research Engineer-Trainee)<br />

Participated in the development of a finite-difference code for the numerical solution of incompressible,<br />

viscous flows in turbomachinery cascades.<br />

Professor K. Giannakoglou worked for about 30 years in Research Projects; he was/is scientific<br />

responsible (within NTUA) ~45 of them. He is Chairman of the ERCOFTAC SIG on Optimization. He


is head of the Design-Optimization Group of the Lab. of Thermal Turbomachines of NTUA, with<br />

activities related to the development and validation of optimization methods for engineering<br />

applications. His group’s research activities are/were funded by the EU (INGENET Thematic<br />

Network, HISAC/FP6, ACFA2020/FP7, HYDROACTION, AQUAGEN), European industrial outfits<br />

(such as Dassault Aviation, VolksWagen, Vatech/Andritz, the Hellenic Aerospace Industry, the<br />

Public Power Coorporation, etc), SMEs (SOFISTIK, ICON), and the Greek Secretariat for Research<br />

and Technology or NTUA through PhD grants. The developed tools have been brought in the form of<br />

an optimization platform (software EASY: Evolutionary Algorithms SYstem) brought to market by<br />

NTUA.<br />
