The low voltage solution<br />
Gateway (LGW200)<br />
The LGW200 is the <strong>smart</strong> <strong>metering</strong> gateway of the Aranuka system, made by <strong>Power</strong> <strong>Plus</strong><br />
Communication. It enables the real-time readout of <strong>smart</strong> meters. The LGW200 connects the<br />
BPL network to meters via standard short range interfaces such as Wireless-M-Bus or RS485,<br />
RS232, M-Bus and Current Loop (wired) and also narrow band PLC. This system allows easy<br />
integration of meters from different manufacturers in order to build a multi-utility (electricity, gas,<br />
water, heat) <strong>metering</strong> solution.<br />
Repeater (LR200)<br />
The LR200 extends the coverage of the BPL network by regenerating the data signal<br />
dynamically. It serves as <strong>smart</strong> nodes in a meshed network structure.<br />
Headend (LH200)<br />
The LH200 connects the BPL network to the backbone via an Ethernet interface.<br />

Coupler<br />
With the BPL medium-voltage coupler a medium-voltage grids can be turned into broadband<br />
data networks. It has been developed specifically for the transmission of broadband signals<br />
over ground-cables and overhead lines. Together with the MV200 BPL modem, this coupler<br />
enables data transmission rates up to 30 Mbps.<br />
MV200<br />
<strong>PPC</strong>'s medium-voltage modem MV200 is able to transmit data on cables with a data rate up to<br />
30 Mbps, in combination with the BPL coupler.<br />

The following Figure shows the link quality. One can see that only the first two bands can be<br />
used with QPSK-modulation for data transmission due to the attenuation of the 1.200 meter<br />
long cable.<br />

Two Bandwidth measurements have been made. For this test, the devices in ST-3 have been<br />
powered off.<br />
The first was made with the default configuration of the Aranuka modems, for meshed BPL<br />
infrastructure. The bandwidth was 1.45 Mbps.<br />
The second measurements where done with optimised configuration for Point-To-Point Links.<br />
With optimised configuration, on this communication link increased from 1.45 Mbps to 2.45<br />
Mbps in average.<br />

The following Figure shows the link quality between GPZ and ST3. One can see that four of<br />
seven bands can be used, with all types of modulation for data transmission on the 800 meter<br />
long cable.<br />
