Friends Choir Biography
In the spring of 2001, an amazing transformation began to take place at the
Showalter Middle School. In a middle school in the financially distressed Chester
Upland School District, a harmonious chorus of twelve enthusiastic adult voices
filled the air and community in ministry, and school pride soon followed.
The concept and dream of “Friends” was fittingly born in the mind of a former student and
currently a special education teacher of the Chester Upland School District, Denise Johnson.
Denise saw a community school desperately in need of positive social and cultural experiences
and invited a group of friends to sing for the schools culminating Black History Month
celebration.
Rodney Bradley, a musician, and former student and employee of the Chester Upland School
District, joined forces with Denise and the harmony and spirit of the choir has permeated the
entire community. He is currently employed by the Discovery Charter School in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania, Lincoln University and an adjunct professor at the Delaware County Community
College (DCCC). He is also a doctoral candidate in the Educational Leadership Department at
Immaculata University in Malvern, Pennsylvania. Many of his ecclesiastical accomplishments
extend from the spiritual training he received from the church where he was born and raised, St.
Paul’s C.M.E. Church in Chester, Pa. Under the tutelage and direction of his grandmother, the
late Uzelia Harris-Bradley, Rod accepted Christ at a very early age.
Our mission is to touch hearts with our voices and bring souls to Christ. Friends Choir is
a ministry of reconciliation. Our desire is to unite all people in Christian love by the grace of
God, in whom we have redemption through his blood, even forgiveness of sins.
Our purpose for existence is to pray for lost souls everywhere, function as a bridge reconciling
humanity back to God, sing and teach the gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with the
intent that men and women will give their lives to the Lord and be saved, and to worship God in
spirit and in truth.
Our vision is to inspire and equip men and women to fulfill the great
commission, inspire each person that they might attain their full
potential in Christ, motivate the body of Christ to walk in love with
one another, and strive earnestly to break down the walls that have
separated the body of Christ.

Patricia was raised and began her religious calling at the Old Welsh Street Union
AME Church in Chester, Pennsylvania. In her later years she worked at Scott Paper
Company, PNC Corporation and after retirement she fulfilled her desire to work with
children at Main Street School as a reading coach.
Not only does she sing in choirs at White Rock and directs numerous choirs but
Tricia is also a member of the stellar awarding winning Chester-Wilmington Mass Choir
and in 2001 became a member of Rodney Bradley and Friends Choir. She truly loves
singing, directing (especially her Men’s choir), and working with Genesis (children’s
praise team at White Rock).
