The Historian’s Office of the City of <strong>Havana</strong> will<br />
celebrate International Museum Day with La<br />
noche de los museos en la Plaza de Armas. The<br />
Museo de la Ciudad, Museo de la Orfebrería,<br />
Museo del Castillo de La Real Fuerza and El<br />
Templete will extend its opening hours to 9pm.<br />
There will be two guided tours: La Habana del<br />
siglo XVIII [18th-century <strong>Havana</strong>] and La Habana<br />
del siglo XIX [19th-century <strong>Havana</strong>]. Both will set<br />
out from the wooden street in front of the<br />
Museum of the City (Palacio de los Capitanes<br />
Generales) at 6pm and 7pm, respectively. The<br />
tours will recreate the <strong>Havana</strong> ambience of those<br />
centuries and will include visits to different<br />
collections in the Museum of the City and other<br />
institutions around Plaza de Armas. The<br />
celebration will close with a concert in the<br />
Museum’s courtyard.<br />

The 11th Encounter on Management of Historic<br />
Centres will have as central topic “Creative and<br />
supportive undertakings, a strategic alternative<br />
for the development of historic centers,” with the<br />
participation of experts from Cuba, Mexico,<br />
Colombia, Spain and Ecuador. Eusebio Leal,<br />
Historian of the City of <strong>Havana</strong>, will open the<br />
event, which includes lectures, panels, papers,<br />
presentations and tours round <strong>Havana</strong>’s Historic<br />
Center. There will also be an exhibition on how<br />
the city of Santiago de Cuba has faced the<br />
devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy, and the<br />
launching of the book Luces y simientes. Territorio<br />
y gestión en cinco centros históricos cubanos,<br />
which reflects the work carried out by the Offices<br />
for Conservation throughout the country. A postevent<br />
course (May 13-17) will approach the topic of<br />
how the Historian’s Office of the City of <strong>Havana</strong><br />
works on the integral rehabilitation of the Historic<br />
