In this example, migration begins when a client’s application<br />

program issues a request to read the first 8 KB of the mail.txt file<br />

through the VNX. This request triggers the opening and migration of<br />

each component in the path from the root of the file system to the<br />

mail.txt file, as shown in Figure 4 on page 39. The steps are as follows:<br />

1. The /Mail directory is opened and migrated to the VNX.<br />

This migration includes attributes for the /Mail/Options and the<br />

/Mail/Users directories, but not their contents.<br />

A “placeholder” is created for the /Options directory.<br />
