Greetings families and we hope you enjoyed a pleasant spring break! We are gearing up for some end-of-the-year
activities and hope you can join us! For starters, Earth Day, on the 22 nd of April, Volunteer Recognition Tea, (May 7),
Community Montessori 15-Yr Birthday and Picnic Celebration (May 27).
April 22, 5-7 PM, Earth Day Picnic. All are invited to celebrate on our beautiful grounds! (see flyer)
May 7, 8-9 AM, Volunteer Appreciation Tea
We hope you will be able to join our staff on Friday, May 7 th at drop-off (8:00-9:00) in the library for coffee/tea/juice and
a bite to eat. This is a small gesture from our staff to say a big thank you to all of you for the many ways that you
contribute to the success of Community Montessori. Whether you volunteer in the classroom, at home, toward an allschool
event, or provide SIT-PTA leadership, we appreciate you so very much. The support you provide your child, your
participation in school functions, and your donations of time and money are invaluable to the building of a strong school
community and a quality Montessori program. Please save the date—May 7 th (8:00-9:00 AM). Our staff would love to

We are closing in on $20K with $10K more to go. IF you have not made your donation yet, please download a form and
mail in or drop at the front desk. TAMALES FOR PGC. Many of our Latino families will be gathering on Saturday,
April 24 th to make and sell tamales in support of the PGC for Community Montessori. These families are donating the
proceeds from their sales. There will be some additional tamales available for sale on Monday, April 26 th at the school.
They are $12 per dozen on a first-come-first-serve basis while they last! Please see Rosa on Monday, April 26 th to

Reminder – Pre-school staggered start dates – All new 3 & 4-year old 10/11 students will receive letters in June
noting the date when they will begin school for the 10/11 school year. As always, the 3’s and new 4’s are staggered, a
few each day, the first week and one-half back. Returning 4’s will start on Monday, August 30 th . Kindergarten
students will start on August 17 th along with elementary students. New 3 & 4 year-olds will start on their designated
date.

Did you know? The city of Boulder is the number one flash flood risk in the state of Colorado and floods can
literally occur in a flash during a severe storm. Although Boulder's peak flood season is April 1 through
September 30, floods can happen anytime throughout the year. If you live, work or play in Boulder you are at
risk so it’s important for families to be prepared for flooding at any time.
To help you prepare for a flood event, the city of Boulder has put together a family Flood Action Plan for you to
complete and post in your home, and an informational brochure that will help teach you what to do before,
during and after a flood. To view these materials and other flood information resources, visit

What Can You Do in Case of a Flood?
Get Prepared
• Find out if your home or place of work is in a floodplain.
• Keep an emergency kit accessible.
• Complete a family Flood Action Plan so you know where your family will meet in an emergency.
During a Flood
• Move to higher ground immediately.
• Avoid walking through flowing waters. Swift moving waters may sweep people away causing death.
• Avoid driving through flooded areas. Cars float in 18 inches of water; half of all fatalities are autorelated.
• Stay away from power lines and electrical wires. Electrocution is the number two killer in floods.
After the Flood
• Avoid returning to disaster areas until authorized.
• Clean everything that got wet.

bin. Enjoy songs, music and poetry by CM students.
Take a tour of the vegetable garden to see what’s growing and
taste the veggies from the garden with dressing – all planted,
grown, harvested and prepared by the students!
Please join us in the courtyard at 5pm or whenever you can make it. Don’t forget
to bring a picnic dinner, blanket and water bottle. We’ll eat together under the
trees above the playground (bad weather, meet in the gym).
Help out by donating a tool to the school garden! If you are able,
please bring along a tool or drop it off with at the front desk before
Earth Day. We need:

Recordatorio – Fechas escalonadas para la entrada al Preescolar – Todos los alumnos nuevos de 3 y 4 años para
2010/11 recibirán cartas en junio, avisando la fecha en que entrarán a la escuela para el año escolar 10/11. Como
siempre, los niños nuevos de 3 y 4 años entran escalonados, algunos por día, durante la primera semana y media de
regreso. Los niños de 4 años que vuelven entrarán el lunes 30 de agosto. Los alumnos de Kindergarten entrarán el 17
de agosto junto con los alumnos de Elemental. Los niños nuevos de 3 y 4 años comenzarán en su fecha indicada.

Queridas familias:
¿Sabían Uds. que la Ciudad de Boulder tiene el mayor riesgo en el Estado de Colorado para inundaciones
repentinas y violenta? Las inundaciones pueden suceder repentinamente durante una tormenta severa. Aunque
la época principal de inundaciones es del 1º de abril hasta el 30 de septiembre, las inundaciones pueden ocurrir
en cualquier momento durante el año. Si Ud. vive, trabaja o juega en Boulder está en riesgo, así que es
importante que las familias estén preparadas para una inundación en cualquier momento.
Para ayudarle a prepararse para un evento de inundación, la Ciudad de Boulder ha preparado un plan de acción
familiar para que Ud. lo prepare y lo ponga a la vista en su casa, y también un panfleto de información que le
ayudará saber qué hacer antes de, durante y después de una inundación. Para ver estos materiales y otros

¿Qué puede hacer usted en caso de una inundación?
Prepárese
• Investigue si su hogar o lugar de trabajo está en un área sujeta a inundaciones.
• Mantenga accesible un equipo de emergencia.
• Complete un plan de acción familiar para que Ud. sepa donde se reunirá su familia en caso de una
emergencia.
Durante una inundación
• Suba inmediatamente a una superficie más alta.
• No camine por aguas que fluyan. Las aguas que se desplazan rápidamente pueden arrastrar a las personas y
causar su muerte.
• No maneje en áreas inundadas. Los automóviles flotan en 18 pulgadas de agua: la mitad de las muertes son
relacionadas a los automóviles.
• Aléjese de los cables de alta tensión y los alambres eléctricos. La electrocución es el segundo factor de
muerte más alto durante las inundaciones.
Después de una inundación
• No regrese a las áreas de desastre hasta que sea autorizado.
• Limpie todo lo que se haya mojado.

Estos son los temas de clase para este mes. Favor de
utilizarlos también para conversación durante la cena.
Mayo Inclusión
Si en el recreo ves a alguien que
está solo, cuenta cómo lo/la
invitarías a jugar.
Cuenta cómo invitarías a alguien
que habla inglés/español a
trabajar contigo en el salón de
clase.
¿Qué puedes hacer para mostrar
que quieres ser amigable, aunque
no hables el mismo idioma?
Sonrisa, ademán, postura abierta,
“hola” o “hi.”
¿Qué harías si no tuvieras nadie
con quien jugar?
Si es un juego para dos personas,
¿cómo puedes incluir a una
tercera persona?
Si ves a alguien a quien lo están
fastidiando, cuenta cómo lo/la
defenderías.
Cuenta cómo invitarías a alguien
que habla español/inglés a entrar
a tu juego, si no hablas el mismo
idioma.
¿Cómo comenzarías una
conversación si no crees que
