Summer is just around the corner.
Plans are starting to shape up. Friends
and family are coming to visit and you’re
wondering what on earth to do when they
get here. Well you’re in luck. Here are a
whole bunch of ideas for a great summer
spent with all those you love the most.
You’ll make a great host!
Did you know that Alberta produces about
40 per cent of Canada’s honey? Check out
the 6.7 metre bee statue in Falher, Honey
Capital of Canada, and stay for the honey
festival. See a few brave souls don waggling
“beards” of live honey bees. Travelling from
the south? Make a stop at a meadery to
enjoy a tasting after you view the queen
bee near Okotoks.
Ready for some serious shopping?
Get ready for a full day of fashion at
West Edmonton Mall or take a road trip
through the cool little towns on the
Cowboy Trail for some unique finds.
The history buffs in your bunch will enjoy
exploring the Crowsnest Pass and visit the
sites that hold the tales of the early coal
mining days. Drop some jaws when you
show your visitors the famed Frank Slide.
Visit the Atlas Coal Mine National Historic
Site in Drumheller and help celebrate its
100th birthday with a climb up the last
wooden tipple in Canada.
Looking for a different point of view? See
Alberta from the air – on a hot air balloon
ride, from the open cockpit of a vintage
airplane or try a heli tour. Then see Alberta
from below – on an underwater scuba dive
at Lake Minnewanka.
For something extra special, visit the newly
refurbished Cave and Basin National Historic
Site in Banff and learn how the national park
system all began, back in 1883. Take a look
at some of the challenging golf courses in
central and northern Alberta – duffers will be
delighted that they can play until almost
midnight up north.
Wherever your Alberta travels take you,
there’s a small town rodeo calling your
name. Give your guests a taste of what real
rodeo is all about – up close and personal.
And then you can show off Alberta’s
booming craft beer industry with a frosty
lager made from local ingredients.
