With no preliminar music clasification of this ensemble, we would like to introduce<br />

the <strong>Miguel</strong> <strong>Fernández</strong> Quartet. The band owns an original music improvisation<br />

concept...jazz? Maybe...whoever needs to be surprised by his/her sensitive perceptions<br />

just has to come by one of <strong>Miguel</strong> <strong>Fernández</strong> Quartet presentations and check it<br />

out. Public will notice the pure energy this band gives off.<br />

This Quartet was ensembled by <strong>Miguel</strong> at the begining of 2007 and it has performed<br />

at : Sant Cugat Jazz Festival 2008”, “Jazzaharrean Jazz Festival 08” (Vitoria Off<br />

Festival),"Mirajazz Festival" en Miranda de Ebro (09), “Jornadas musicales” at Motas<br />

Castle, Jamboree, Jazz Cava de Terrassa, "La Bilbaina", Robadors...<br />

Last May a new CD was recorded titled "Transplanet Species" and it will be released<br />

by the end of 2009 for Fresh Sound New Talent Records. Leo Genovese (Esperanza<br />

Spaulding sideman) is featuring on rhodes and piano for this recording. For further<br />

<strong>Miguel</strong> <strong>Fernández</strong><br />

His first aproach to music was trough a<br />

classical enviroment obtaining the Classical<br />

Saxophon Degree in Pamplona, Spain. After<br />

that he moved to Boston and attended to<br />

Berklee College of Music in Boston where he<br />

studied "Jazz Performance" major with<br />

Magna Cum Laude qualification. Nowadays<br />

he is playing with Mystic Flugelhorn Band,<br />

Santi Careta Group, Trio Idílico, Fake Trio u<br />

otras colaboraciones internacionales como<br />

Paquito de Rivera Pan-américan Big Band,<br />

Greg Hopkins Big Band, Joe Lovano 22th<br />

Century Group, Oscar Stagnaro, James<br />

Genus, Eli Degibri, André Matos Quintet,<br />

Jesse Chandler, André Fernandes, Juan Cruz<br />

Urquiza, Leo Genovese o Demián Cabaud....<br />

<strong>Miguel</strong> is a Fresh Sound recording artist and<br />

we can find among his last cd´s: "El Perro",<br />

"Obertura" and "Santi Careta Grup meets<br />

<strong>Dani</strong> <strong>Pérez</strong><br />

Originally from Buenos Aires he moved to<br />

Barcelona in 1997 where was already a<br />

member of David Xirgu Quartet. He started<br />

to play with David Mengual (Monkiana<br />

album), Benet Palet, Carme Canela, Alexis<br />

Cuadrado, Gorka Benítez, Bill McHenry, Jules<br />

Bikoko, Víctor de Diego, Joan Abril, Chris<br />

Higgins, Orquestra de Cambra of Lliure´s<br />

Theatre, Quimi Portet... he is currently teaching<br />

at the ESMUC (University of Music in Barcelona)<br />

from 2003/2004 academic year and he leads<br />

his own trio with David Mengual and David<br />

Xirgu. He got Prizes as "Best Guitar Player" of<br />

the years 2000 and 2001, "Best Group" and<br />

"Best Recording" : UGRIX (David Xirgu) 1997.<br />

<strong>Marko</strong> <strong>Lohikari</strong><br />

He studied <strong>contrabass</strong> and improvisation with<br />

the well known Anders Jormin, swedish<br />

composer and bass player, at Gothenburg<br />

University. After that he moved to Finland and<br />

he attended to the Sibelius Academy of<br />

Helsinki. He has played with the best musicians<br />

of the finish scene, Jussi Kannaste, Jussi<br />

Lehoten, Timo Lassy...Now he is living and<br />

playing in Barcelona.<br />

David Xirgu<br />

David was born in Badalona (Barcelona).<br />

Between the ages of 10 and 15, David studied<br />

piano and solfa at the Conservatorio Superior<br />

de Música del Liceo. The drums were always<br />

his instrument of preference, but he played<br />

them as a self-taught musician. At the age<br />

of 18, David began studies in the modern<br />

music schools L’Aula and el Taller de Músics.<br />

From 1985 to present, David has been member<br />

and founder of a great number of musical<br />

groups, among which his long-term<br />

collaborations with the Lluis Vidal Trio, Carmen<br />

Canela, Iñaki Salvador and with the Orquesta<br />

de Cambra del Teatre Lliure deserve special<br />

mention. He has also led his own group since<br />

the end of 1995.<br />

David has had the pleasure of playing with<br />

musicians of renowned prestige such as John<br />

Abercrombie, Vince Mendoza, Dave<br />

Liebman, Fred Hersch, Mark Feldman, Norma<br />

Winstone, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Ben Monder,<br />

Guillermo Klein, Art Farmer, Charles Tolliver,<br />

Dave Schnitter, Mulgrew Miller, etc.<br />

He can be heard on more than 50 jazz<br />

recordings.<br />
