<strong>Family</strong> <strong>Weekend</strong> <strong>Schedule</strong> (July 20-22 nd )<br />

Friday, July 20<br />

9am-5pm APEA Class Observation<br />

Location: Consult your student for class schedule, CMU campus<br />

<strong>Family</strong> and friends are invited to attend and observe APEA college courses<br />

with students. Students should make arrangements for this with their<br />

individual faculty prior to <strong>Family</strong> <strong>Weekend</strong>.<br />

2:30pm – 5pm National Game Academy Open House<br />

Location: Entertainment Technology Center<br />

(700 Technology Dr, Pittsburgh, PA 15213)<br />

A chartered bus will depart from the Morewood Gardens Parking Lot @ 2pm;<br />

Open House will begin at 2:30pm or you may drive yourself to the ETC<br />

location, the lot at the ETC location is pay as you park.<br />

5pm-7pm Dinner Break on your own<br />

Feel free to explore Pittsburgh! Please see the information table at Morewood<br />

Gardens for guides to Pittsburgh.<br />

*<strong>Carnegie</strong> Café open 4-7pm in Resnik Hall (student dining, families must pay<br />

per individual $11.50, students are covered under the full-time residential<br />

meal plan)<br />

7:30pm Cosimo Colazzo Recital<br />

Location: College of Fine Arts, Kresge Recital Hall, CMU campus<br />

Cosimo Colazzo is a visiting pianist and composer from Italy. His recital will<br />

consist of the complete sets of “Musica Callada” by Spanish composer<br />

Frederico Mompou and some of Cosimo Colazzo’s original pieces.<br />

Saturday, July 21<br />

10am – 2pm Drama Design, Production Technology, and Management Program Display<br />

Location: Purnell Lobby, CMU campus<br />

10am-11am School of Design Information Session<br />

Location: Margaret Morrison, Room A6, CMU campus<br />

All students and their families are invited to an introductory presentation by<br />

Melissa Cicozi, Assistant Head of the School of Design.<br />

10am – 5pm Special <strong>Weekend</strong> Hours at the Bookstore<br />

Location: Bookstore, <strong>University</strong> Center<br />

The Bookstore is normally closed on the weekends during the summer.<br />

However, it will be open during these special hours for the convenience of<br />

Pre-College students and their families.<br />

10:30 – 11:30am <strong>Carnegie</strong> <strong>Mellon</strong>: Academics, Admissions, Financial Aid, & more!<br />

tour will be offered after the presentation from 12pm – 1pm.<br />

11am – 12:30pm Drama Program Class Demonstrations<br />

Location: Philip Chosky Theater, Purnell Center<br />

Join us for a collection of demonstrations by Pre-College Drama students.<br />

12pm – 1pm Campus Tour<br />

Location: Tour will depart from McConomy Auditorium, <strong>University</strong> Center,<br />

CMU campus<br />

Enjoy an engaging walking tour that, over the course of an hour, provides a<br />

general overview of <strong>Carnegie</strong> <strong>Mellon</strong> complete with interesting facts, figures<br />

and historical tidbits about the university.<br />

12pm - 2pm Art & Design Student Exhibit Reception<br />

Location: College of Fine Arts 3 rd Floor, CMU campus<br />

Enjoy light refreshments amid an exhibit of Pre-College student work.<br />

12:30pm - 2pm Drama Faculty and <strong>Family</strong> Picnic<br />

Location: Purnell Center Main Lobby/The Cut, CMU campus<br />

Lunch will be served and families will have the opportunity to mingle with the<br />

<strong>Carnegie</strong> <strong>Mellon</strong> Drama faculty.<br />

12:30pm - 2pm School of Architecture Student Exhibit Reception<br />

Location: College of Fine Arts, Room 214, CMU campus<br />

Enjoy light refreshments amid an exhibit of Pre-College student work.<br />

1pm - 2pm APEA Open House and Reception<br />

Location: Danforth Lounge, <strong>University</strong> Center, CMU campus<br />

The APEA Director, Coordinator and some Faculty members for the Advanced<br />

Placement Early Admission Program will be available to meet with students<br />

and their families.<br />

2pm School of Art Information Session<br />

Location: College of Fine Arts, Room 303, CMU campus<br />

All students and their families are invited to an introductory presentation on<br />

undergraduate studies in <strong>Carnegie</strong> <strong>Mellon</strong>’s School of Art<br />

2pm-3pm Architecture Information Session<br />

Location: Margaret Morrison, Room 103, CMU campus<br />

Attendees will be given an introduction to the undergraduate architecture<br />

program. The discussion will include a presentation and description of the<br />

program as well as admission requirements.<br />

3pm School of Art Orientation Meeting<br />

Location: College of Fine Arts, Room 303, CMU campus


<strong>Family</strong> <strong>Weekend</strong> <strong>Schedule</strong> (July 20-22 nd )<br />

All students staying for six weeks and their families are invited to meet with<br />

Elizabeth Keller, Director of the Art & Design Pre-College Program. Students<br />

will receive their schedules at this meeting for the second three weeks.<br />

3:30pm Pre-College Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble Concert<br />

Location: College of Fine Arts, Kresge Recital Hall, CMU campus<br />

6pm-7:30pm Pre-College Community Dinner<br />

Location: Weigand Gym, <strong>University</strong> Center, CMU campus<br />

Join the entire Pre-College community for a special dinner.<br />

7:30pm – 10:30pm Talent Show and Reception<br />

Location: McConomy Auditorium, <strong>University</strong> Center, CMU campus<br />

Sit back and prepare to be amazed as the 2012 Pre-College students take the<br />

stage in the McConomy Auditorium for an evening that will knock your socks<br />

off. Guests are invited to join our performers and the Pre-College Counselors<br />

for a reception offering light refreshments immediately following the show in<br />

the Connan Room and Wean Commons.<br />

Sunday, July 22<br />

10am – 5pm Special <strong>Weekend</strong> Hours at the Bookstore<br />

Location: Bookstore, <strong>University</strong> Center<br />

The Bookstore is normally closed on the weekends during the summer.<br />

However, it will be open during these special hours for the convenience of<br />

Pre-College students and their families.<br />

1:35pm (game time) Pirates vs. Marlins<br />

Head downtown for an afternoon at PNC Park, home of the Pittsburgh Pirates<br />

and watch some of your very own Pre-College students sing during the 7 th<br />

inning stretch!! The Pirates face the Marlins for this afternoon of classic<br />

baseball, set against the stadium's incredible view of downtown Pittsburgh.<br />

Tickets ($15/each) are available for purchase at the Ticket Sales table under<br />

the Registration Tent on Opening Day and after Opening Day in the <strong>University</strong><br />

Center (UC) Information Desk. Ticket prices include a $10 loaded meal<br />

voucher usable at the concession stands at the stadium. Buses leave at<br />

12:15p.m, meeting location Morewood Parking Lot.<br />

Sign-In Policy & Curfew<br />

Please remember that all students are expected to sign in for curfew each night. This<br />

includes the evenings of <strong>Family</strong> <strong>Weekend</strong>. If your student will be staying with you (and<br />

therefore missing curfew) then you must complete an “Absence from Campus<br />

Permission Form”. The form is available at the Morewood Gardens Front Desk or the<br />

Morewood Gardens Information Table.
